Injury Pics

Worst cut I've ever had from a knife looked almost exactly like that, except it was on my index finger. Came from my Izula, got sloppy while cleaning a squirrel.

I get a small prick once a year or two.

I had one very similar while sharpening a knife earlier this year. The phone rang and I jumped at the wrong time.

That said, I don't think I would have phrased your last line quite that way if I were you.:foot:

Okay, I have to say something here for those who don't know.

I know you can superglue parts of yourself back together, you can use duct tape for everything, that 2 broken legs a dislocated shoulder and 5 broken teeth don't hurt cause you are a "real man" and all that stuff... but

Seriously folks. If you have cuts, gouges, or gashes to your hands, face, or feet and you THINK you need stitches/medical attention. THEN YOU NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION!

Flesh on the Hands, Feet and Face is pulled tight. If you cut it, gouge it, or gash it (stretch it till it breaks), the wound will not close on its own to heal properly. It will have to be stitched (and stretched) back closed to heal.

I have seen to many people "walk it off" only to realize later they need docs to clean up what they should have had fixed up in the first place, and that they have caused more trouble for themselves (infection) than they would have if they just went to the doc.

I have fingers that I have lost sensation in due to almost severed tips where I thought "ehh, I've had worse", where on other fingers I had cut in a similar fashion stitched back together and I still feel them. I wish I had paid the money to have everything stitched back on.

I just really really hate the idea of having to live with an injury that you could have solved with a trip to a medical professional.

Ok, I will step off my soap box now.

damn! i hate belt burn like that! i'd take a clean flesh slice over belt burn anyday...comes with the trade though.

Robert.B,
Wanna hear the worst part of that one? I was profiling a skinner before getting ready to do the hollow grind on it. I had JUST bought a brand new band saw to cut the profiles, but decided, Aw ... why spend the time to break it out since I'm only gonna cut one? So, I profiled the blade on the grinder. After I got that finger and AFTER I stopped feeling "woozy" {about 20-30 minutes later} (don't know why, but I ALWAYS get that "woozy" feeling when I injure my fingers :o ), went back to the grinder. Literally was the FIRST time I ever got into the quick on a finger! Anyway, within about 5 minutes I got about 3/16" off the pointer finger on my other (left) hand!:eek: Still managed to finish grinding the profile AND the hollow grind (short of final polishing before HT) ... just being Stubborn. :D

I dont post much over here I mostly just read you guys's stuff but I had to jump in on this one! Winter 2 years ago on super bowl sunday. Replacing Hyfax on my snowmobile ( thick heavy piece of plastic designed to prvent wear on frame from track). I had to go bragging about my new spyderco endrua wave. Sharp as hell right, Very first cut it ever made right out of the box and BAM! completely severed the tendens and nerves. it took some fancy stitches on the inside and about 10 on the outside. Had to get it restiched cause it tore open snowmobileing. Still completely numb!!! what a dummy- Joel

now that's devotion! though I know the feeling, if I really get in the "zone" I'll literally keep going till I am satisfied I am done for the day!

I don't have pictures but I cut to the bone in the meaty part of my left thumb, right above my wrist, I had to cup my hands to hold the blood till I could get to the sink about 15 feet away, laid on some toilet paper, cut up an old sock to act as a bandage/fingerless glove and got back to carving. (Not like the idiot I was a few minutes prior)

Not W&SS related but knife, none-the-less....

Back in highschool, I got involved in a mix where a guy brought a knife to a fistfight. He cut one of my buds on the back of the hand before I grabbed the blade and the bouncers grabbed him. Charges were pressed and I did seek medical attention. You would never know it happened if not for the faint scares... awesome doc.

justabuyer, that is NASTY!

Well some of you may have seen this already, but here again is my contribution, back in early September I dropped my freshly sharpened Fallkniven Thor bowie, it somehow landed on the back of my ankle.

Here is the result...

Yep, it went clean through my achilles tendon like it was butter.

This is what it looked like about a month later...

So ....several months and many thousands of dollars later, I'm now able to wear a shoe and walk again without assistance. It's still stiff and sore, and my leg muscles are shriveled and weak, BUT I think it is comeing along pretty well considering the extent of damage done.

I plan to be out hiking again by spring ....got lots of new knives I want to try out, ....on something other than my own leg! :D

you are so freaking lucky you can walk again! thats nasty and close to major vitals. 'Grats dude getting through the rehab side of things and being able to get back out there.

Arteries.

yup, and calcaneal tendon completely popped can be really bad...i had a knife hit around that area too when i was a slaughter men at an abattoir fresh out of school and it cut through my boot and needed 11 stitches. Wasnt that deep though or anywhere near as bad in the long term.

The artery is on the front of the ankle isn't it?

(I went to see Bodies last week ;) )
