Inkosi vs. Umnumzaan

You’ll end up with both anyways :)
Famous last words...

I just did.

Found a large Inkosi Insingo (MagnaCut) online at a dealer, with micarta inlays (my preference).

The waiting begins, the comparison awaits.

And this should do it for me... I actually have no more "wants" in the CRK lineup. (Seven will be enough. Perhaps even more than enough.)

I think we’re going to need a picture of that collection!

Serious question now. Does either the inkosi or the 'zaan offer any increase in performance over a sebenza? I've had the small, just got a large. To be honest, I've never felt under knifed with the small, and keep a medium stockman with me most of time because it's occasionally more than I need in some scenarios.

Are there instances where the heavier build is helpful, or is it just a preference sort of thing? Obviously, just wanting/preferring something heavier is reason enough. I'm just curious.

There was a good bhyde bhyde post on the differences but I can't find it right now. That was what swung me to the Inkosi.

I should clarify too. This was not an "Inkosi is best" thread. It was a really good blue collar breakdown of the features of the different CRK knives and from that I was able to pick what's best for me.

Being still new to CRKs, I like the quarter inch pivot of the Zaan and Inkosi, just like in my Hinderers. I like my white whales chunky :) ... probably makes not difference in normal use, nobody will use their CRKs as pry-bar.

And then, the standard Zaan has a glass breaker and harpoon. Kind of cool.

I definitely get the beefier pivot being a point of attraction. For me personally, I don't care for the aesthetics of the harpoon grind, my only experiment with a glass breaker on a knife resulted in some pretty nasty lacerations on my hand and elbow, and I've never handled a knife with finger grooves that agreed with me. The biggest seller on the 'zaan would be easier manipulation with gloves on, so perhaps one day...

So, as long as it's mostly personal preference and I'm not really leaving performance on the table, I'm not gonna feel bad about staying in harbor for this voyage. Not saying that one day as finances allow I won't add one or both to the stable though. 😉
