Inner Tube Extravaganza Discussion Thread

Are you only going to do one thing with the inner tubes or can we show a bunch of different uses for them?

Jeremy

Many different uses is the idea. Keep in mind though, the task is to use them creatively. ;)

Some of those creative uses might not have allowable images in a family friendly forum....if you're thinking way outside of the box.

OK, maybe I'll just keep those private, then.

Not a Beckerhead, (anyway I would be boring, I just use the bands stacked on some knife handles,)

Noticed you never stated a limit to the size, could be awesome to see someone use a inner tube from a tractor or monster truck (forget awesome that would be THE EPIC!!!)

If it doesn't fill up to capacity I'll considering getting in this one, though I may enjoy it more if I just watch :)

Looks like there's 2 slots left if I'm counting correctly.

@DerekH - do we have to fill all 20 slots by the 28th or we will just proceed with what we have by then?

OK then..... The thing that got me going on this was meeting Dave McIntyre at PWYP and his showing me a similar set up on his neck knife sheath....... The bike inner tube is a bottomless free resource at most bike shops..... Think Ranger bands three feet long ..... Scissors and imagination....Bingo...... Have fun and please come up with stuff to do with this pile Of black in edible donuts I have.......

Ethan

Dave has a bunch of cool and very practical YouTube vids..... Check them out.... E

Are you countermanding the use of any other type of inner tube.....cuz the possibilities.....

Please feel free to show all of your ideas...... Think of this as a brainstorming session........ Share YOUR inner wacko which, in this crowd should pretty easy....... An example.... A small squirt of hand sanitizer to catch a ferro spark and a half inch long section give a nice long, hot burn..... An amazing amount of btus in rubber.... A section on your Bic helps it stay in your pocket by increasing friction and doubles as very waterproof fire starter........

I've got two kind of crazy ideas in mind, one involving the stems of the tubes (wonder if I could pull the valve cores, and make a makeshift straw/fire blowing device). The second one involves the same type of trick you use when you make it so you can "fit through" a single piece of paper.

I've also been thinking of cordage (bungee strap style). We'll see if that idea goes anywhere as well.

I'll be interested to see what others come up with.

Also, I call dibs on my ideas first :).

As a kid I've made plenty of catapults using bike inner tube. Might as well give that another try. A small pebble is often enough to down a small bird or something similar. Sometimes it helps having a sort of long range 'weapon', be it for self preservation (food) or defense. Dibs as well :)

Heh, I'm glad to see someone else understands the rules of "dibs" :p.

Sounds like an interesting idea though, I doubt I would have ever thought of that. Now you've got me thinking how you could use innertube as a trigger for a trap...

Yep! If you've got plenty of rubber available, you could use it for both the 'patch' that holds the projectile, as well as the rubber bands that launch it. The trick is to make it so that it's plenty solid.

A trigger mechanism? Now that's some thinking. I wonder what trap I could use it for... Hmmm:)

Wow.....

Almost full and I figured only a very few would sign up..... The guys at Cycology in Maryville are saving a bunch more for us....... I have the labels filled out and am headed into town for mailers tomorrow and should ship them all next Tuesday so everyone gets about the same start date.....

I am really looking forward to the results..

The rules specified that you would be sent the inner tube to use for the contest. That places limits on the size.

Are you countermanding the use of any other type of inner tube.....cuz the possibilities.....

Also, the thread asked for no chatting, which means if you are not participating, please keep comments, questions, and the like out of the contest thread and put them here.

cant wait to get started on this one, already filled a small list of ideas i need to take pics of

I might have missed it but when do the entry posts need to be in?
Do they go here?
I will be out of town next week . I might be able to have some fun on the road.

Uncle E is going to be out of town for awhile sowing chaos and mayhem across the country, so getting your signup done was the big part. It can run for awhile because he has to mail out everything, then we will see how long we need until everyone has their stuff.

well, drat.
that was one of the first things that came to mind for me, as well -- but I was staying all quiet and stealthy and such about it....
guess I'll have to come up with a ballista or some other form of stone-thrower instead.
