Inner Tube Extravaganza Discussion Thread

S...if it's just inner tubes from bicycles, I have plenty. If E wants to just send me the size(s) and lengths, I can cut my own and save the postage; maybe send a pic of what I've got? I sent some to Psyop a while ago for use as....wait a minute, I ain't givin' away my secrets. Anywho, you guys can send me them if you want, but I've got quite a few from wrenching on bikes over the last few decades.

well, drat.
that was one of the first things that came to mind for me, as well -- but I was staying all quiet and stealthy and such about it....
guess I'll have to come up with a ballista or some other form of stone-thrower instead.

If you could build a trebuchet out of random sticks and a bike tube, that would be capable enough to take out a small mammal... I would be incredibly impressed.

Yeah, I don't think there's any dibs here. Someone may have already had some thoughts and didn't want to give them away then someone else is all dibs? Someone could just make a 2page list then call it lol. I'd think it more interesting to see several interpretations of a single idea than just one.

Hahaha, for the sake of the contest: if you wanna make a slingshot, just go ahead man. And I just noticed I might have translated 'catapult' a bit too literally, lol. We actually call both catapults and slingshot 'katapult' in our local dialect. Oh well :D

They make a decent diaphragm in pvc air horns.

I didn't get the pitch I wanted though. :listening_headphone

Damn, you stole my idea! Ok then, I'll do a banana hammock!

My problem is finding an inner tube that is long enough. I'm sure you understand.

Anyways, has anyone else seen this vid from Blade Show?

Lastly, I've searched to find the fancy way to get the video to play right in my post, but I can only ever get a link to copy. Any of you smarty high school grads want to help me out?

The trick is the "Insert Video" button in the editor (just to the right of the "insert image" button on mine). It wraps the link in "video" tags, and makes it work like you want :).

And technically, I'm not even a High School Graduate :p.

Also, I've used a small 4 cell button light ranger banded to my Mora for years now. I use it much the same way that Ethan was (keeping it in the sheath, turning it on and off). It works great. The compass is a great idea though.

Funny thing is, that's exactly what I did - and it has worked before - and got the same result as SN. Your html tag looks different though (nice thing about quoting someone) ....when I did it the "insert video" button only put the html tag without the video=youtube;MzASQWOlKzI part.....OK enough geeking out. Imma watch the video now.

Please feel free to show all of your ideas...... Think of this as a brainstorming session........ Share YOUR inner wacko which, in this crowd should pretty easy....... An example.... A small squirt of hand sanitizer to catch a ferro spark and a half inch long section give a nice long, hot burn..... An amazing amount of btus in rubber.... A section on your Bic helps it stay in your pocket by increasing friction and doubles as very waterproof fire starter........

Mr. Becker: what's the name of the YouTube channel for Dave McIntyre? Searched, but don't think I found the right Dave McIntyre.

You know what, I actually noticed that. It appears that the video tag wants the source, the name of the video, and then the actual link inside the brackets.

Here is in an intentionally broken version, for others if they're for some reason interested (just took off the beginning and ending "[]").

video=youtube;MzASQWOlKzI]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzASQWOlKzI&feature=youtu.be[/video

Also, I strongly suggest the "preview post" button. Because my first attempt wasn't successful either :p (first tried it with the embedding code that youtube provides, which totally doesn't work). So really, I just hid my few failures from everyone :).

Anyway...

I've never actually tried burning rubber from one of these tubes. Do you just cut up strips and throw it on the fire? Does it catch a spark well at all? Anyone have any experience using an innertube as a fire starter?

Hey Semper Praesidio ......

Ck your email for the links from Dave MACIntyre..... If you can please post them up...... I am not sure how to do that but, even the old guy can forward emails....LOL..... Thanks....

it's all good - I was pretty sure you meant slingshot -- catapult is a regional term for it in parts of the US.
