Inner Tube Extravaganza Discussion Thread

Really loved your update. I never saw a tube slingshot, ver nifty idea and I'm glad it worked out well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Got to thinking about it later and slingbow is probably a better way to describe it. Got the inspiration from a video I saw on YouTube of a guy shooting arrows with a slingshot - he called it a slingbow.

Sorry guys, I've been busy a bit lately (long story, but my wife and I were forced to couch surf for 10 days because our apt complex forced us out to renovate :/).

Anyway, now that we're more or less moved back in, I should have some time to play with stuff again.

Really good ideas and execution so far. I'm going to struggle to come up with something meaningfully different than what most of you guys have done.

added another idea to page 2 of the official thread - were in the final days! lets keep this going strong

Thanks for the update,
If you don't mind I have a idea that might work for the ankle wraps.
I was going to post it anyway but use it in a different way.

fine by me - i appreciate you asking (though definitely not necessary - my foot was too big for this to work for me haha)

I posted a update on page two. I have a few more ideas. We'll see if I fine the time to work them out.

Maybe if you put the PJ cotton in a fire straw it might fit better?
You take a nice picture, I never get the lighting right.

It's funny - I hadn't thought of using the fire straw before but now that I think of it I don't think I could fit one haha I managed to get all that stuff crammed perfectly into a tin that the square shape worked perfect. As far as the inner tube survival kit I posted, I think a 3" fire straw or two could be a great upgrade!

Thanks for the photo compliment! I think for me the trick is using natural light with some shade (overcast days are best but a sunny day with some cover works great too)

one more update on my post on page 2 - given the fact that there is only 25.5 hours left to submit ideas that will PROBABLY be my last update/submission (no guarantees though) :D

Well, I finally got time to work on this a bit. I only got two of my ideas done, but considering my time constraints lately, I'll call that a win.

I may find time tonight to post the photos. Otherwise it will be tomorrow RIGHT before the buzzer :/.

drat.
life got in the way and I haven't had a chance to get pictures -- good job guys and congrats to the winners.

I updated my original post in the contest thread. I only got to two of my ideas, but life happens, so I'm ok with it.

Lots of amazing ideas in there.

Fun challenge, indeed! Great to see everyone's ideas. I was hoping for some last minute, brilliant inspiration during my cross country road trip, but alas I was too busy admiring the beautiful creation of the western U.S. to think about inner tube. [emoji3]

While its definitely unfortunate that you weren't able to in time but if you have any good ideas we still want to see 'em!

So now that the official entries have closed - I'm curious to see, has anyone added any of the ideas to full time usage?

For me it's been -

- bic lighter trick
This one has actually made its way into my edc!
- retention strap for both my ferro rod on the bk2 and the retention strap on the old style bk11 sheath
-survival tin strap and side seal
- battery terminal cover/containment

I'm definitely hooked on these now haha

After seeing all of these great ideas. I had the thought, has anyone tried the innertube concepts and carried them over to motocross/ motorcycle innertubes? It a whole new ballgame.

Thats actually something I've wanted to try, but didn't during the contest to keep things fair and within the rules. The one idea that I think could have worked if I had a larger inner tube such as that from a dirt bike; would be the ankle wraps. I don't know about you guys but when I'm in areas where ticks are heavy (at its worst we had a combined total of 14 ticks on 4 people in 1 afternoon of riding) I always tuck my pant legs into my boots, other guys duct tape their pant legs shut. My idea was to use a piece of inner tube in place of the duct tape, it would be a little more forgiving with pressure and restriction, as well as prevent getting glue all over everything.
