Inside out Stag!?!?

DUNCAN...This one???...These are all SIKA.....There are a lot of ROE deer in England,so the OP knife could also be that... FES

Fes - wow - great photos - gees...its like walking into a serial killers den, and finding his trophys on the wall lol

The bottom photo is the one I remember-thanks for that - now if you sanded the "popcorn bits" ( sorry for my lack of education on the use of incorrect terminology ) down - do you think you would get the same result as your Carving set?
(Sorry Charlie to deviate from your original op)

No deviation, Duncan - we are talking about antler!!
I believe the handles on Fes's carving set are jigged (divoted), is that not so??
It is a man-made texture (second cut), as opposed to the Sika antlers which are natural and "bumpy" like most stag.

Brad, thanks for the cultural info! Gives food for thought re: a respectful approach to, well, food!

Agreed Charlie...Most definitely man made in my opinion...And yes Duncan..if you ever sanded any of that popcorn down to smoothe, you would most DEFINITELY be hanging off one of my walls !!! FES

Lol Fes, I find the "second cut" bone and the way cutlers work Stag or Bone very intriguing, as for me personally sanding down Stag -NEVER, wash your mouth out my friend.
I would like to add you would never be deserving enough to have such a trophy such as myself hanging on your wall, such beauty would need to be in a Museum?

DUNCAN...My delusional friend, only WORLD CLASS hangs on my walls...However, there is a local museum here that deals in local antiquities..Im sure they will have room somewhere to hang your carcass.. FES

I know you guys are friends! No need for moderators guys!!

Nice mount on the wall, Fes. Spectacular trophy.
I really like that Bopsicle Stick resting on top! Now THAT would open a GEC tube!

Thank you Charlie....Yes indeed a spectacular mount... Bopsicle is my personal sword i made for myself..4 pound of tempered L6 should manage to pop most things methinx... FES

Nice looking, but Bopsicle is a funny name for a sword!! (Boom, tishhh):D

Is that little bird a pet or a trophy??

That little bird is a FANTAIL...A very agressive bird despite its looks...There were three sitting on the head but i was too slow with the camera...totally wild.. FES

It does have an aggressive, beady little eye, Fes!
Do they barge into your house at will??

Love it! nice piece of antler on it...I have this baby that was found in kiwi land about 15 years ago :)

I keep getting it in my head to cut it up, then I slap myself because I'd rather just fly in some more than cut an antler i've had so long.

Rob, I think you need to return that stolen property back to New Zealand my friend, e-mailing you my address.....:D

ROBERT....thats a nice bit of timber youve got there.....if the brow tine comes directly off the coronet,it is a red head....if an inch or so above then it is a Wapiti... Wapitit (ELK) and Sika are first cousins.....a nice piece all the same ....FES

Yeah when I was getting it ID'd to bring to the US had a couple people suggest it was a hybrid red/elk possibly but I don't think it is. Sure is pretty though, Aus and NZ have deer that I wish were in the US (Aus has heards of Sambar, chital and rusa, not sure if kiwi land has the exotics).

White tail antlers on the tiny deer in my area are very unexciting haha but I am ordering a Svord peasant to mount in a piece of white tail I found.

If it is a farmed deer then most definitely could be a hybrid....the brow tine position will say what is the dominant strain... FYI we have reds, rusa, whitetail, sika, sambar, fallow and moose?? FES

Corr blimey! Some serious hardcore horn going on here!!

What a feast gents, thank you.

I reckon its too small and too gnarly on the main beam. Roe is pretty much the reserve of trophies or walking stick handles here.

Here are Rusa antlers -look close for the brow tines they're at a funny angle- modelled by Peter. This will give an idea of what a human head bearing antlers would look like on the wall.

Here is a carving set I "repaired" for a mate with some shed Rusa antler(knife) and one from a buck that was still growing his velvet-he was illegally shot nearby... Note how smooth thetop one is in comparison having been fully utilised by a stag until they fell off at the end of the season. They haven't been sanded by me. Lot of difference in colour and texture. The fork had to be treated to get the velvet off by burning and peeling. It was an experiment that turned out ok.

Fes can I ask what you used on that Schrade to get the antler all nice n shiny?
cheers
oops nearly forgot that it is believed that Rusa and Sambar have interbred in northern Victoria and formed a feral hybrid .
