Interested in donating a knife to deserving Soldiers?

Hi All-

Here is another group that specializes in sending knives to the troops if one wants to make a small PayPal monetary donation to their cause. They're called the Hobbit Hole Knife Project and they seem like real decent folks trying to get as many knives and tools into the hands of soldiers as possible.

Brian Carlson, my hat is off to you! Thanks for bravely standing on that wall and helping Americans to continue to enjoy many freedoms.

Thanks for the nice words, Blue Jays. I was unaware that our site was mentioned here until someone from this forum sent a nice donation via PayPal today. I have no way of matching the person donating with all the handles here, so let me just thank you all.

Our web site is constantly undergoing modifications, as is our "product line". Currently, xenon and LED flashlights are popular items. If you wish to visit, this is our home page: http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net

We started this troop support project to be something other than a "socks and snacks" support group, although we've gone that route, too. We decided that lots of little things (like knives, flashlights, plastic safety carabiners, dump pouches) are overlooked by Uncle Sam, but are big hits with the troops.

CSM Carlson, its good to see you taking such good care of your troops, I finished my 13 month tour in Mar.'05 I am an 88M, and was out of FOB Speicher. You will have a brand new KA-BAR (large bowie)model on the way to you this week, thanks again CSM...keep your head down GO ARMY!HOOAH

Just caught this thread, kinda new here.
Is the donate knife program still ongoing?

If so, do I send it to the folowing address directly?:

Address removed since he is home now.

I have a never used Sog Seal 2000 with original sheath that I'm sure could find a better home than my draw.

Thank you all, it's a great idea and gesture :)

Great program. For those just trying to get on board, it seems the good CSM was assigned to TRADOC back in May/June so that original mailing address is no longer accurate. Besides that, he started this topic one year ago, which implies to me that his BCT will redeploy to the states soon, if they haven't already. Those generous people still wishing to donate to the troops should consider finding another deployed unit and contacting their leadership, or make use of one of the companies that continuously send stuff to deployed units in general.

This has been a very impressive display of support for the troops and good job to everyone who participated.

For those of us who don't make a lot of money, but would still like to help, is there any type of list of good-quality models at an inexpensive price-point that would be useful for the troops? (Both folder and fixed-blade).

I'll tell you something else that my son just loved getting and so did all his buddies over there. It was those silicone impregnated gun cleaning clothes. Those things were a real godsend to the guys there for keeping their gun clean and their knives. I know I got many thanks from guys I didn't even know for sending a box of those over to Brandon. There is a local gun and pawn that sells them here and they gave me a whole box when they found out what I was doing with them. If you pass that on maybe someone with their FFL will know where to get those.

Is there still a need for and a way to get the knives to the troops? I have a 6 inch W2/African blackwood fighter on the bench and more to follow. Are there any restrictions on blade size? I would probably just send it in a kydex lines Blackhawk sheath as I havenot made any of my own yet/

I'm in! Where do I ship to? Please email an address.

These brave men and women make me proud to be an American!

I send a Randall Airman to a Marine I know. Randall makes sure that our servicemen get fast service. It would take a civilian over four years to get said knife. If one sends a copy of their military ID and military address they expidite things. They require that the recipient's name be engraved on the blade. I got the knife in about two weeks. It is sent to the buyer and the buyer sends it on to the serviceman.
I don't know how he likes it. He is in the USMC Recon and it presently in jump school. I know he will be surprized. I wish I could afford to send a hundred of them or more. We need to let our troops know how much we appreciate them if only by words.

Dear Richard;
If one wants to send a Randall knife to a serviceman it is for that person only. The serviceman must send you a copy of his military ID along with his military address. This is then faxed or sent to Randall. The knife will have the recipeints's name engraved on it. It will be sent to you and you in turn will send it on to the person you have in mind.
I would call Randall up and they can probably intruct you in a more expeditious way. There is a $50 non-refundable deposit. When the knive is shipped they put it on your card.
Good luck.

I can give you a hint. The army use to accept packages titled "To any soldier" or some such label. That is no longer done. Each package must be labeled with the soldiers name or with "To the Commander" of such and such unit. I will be more than happy to offer the address of the unit who will be replacing my unit when August gets here. I believe the biggest need for a transportation unit is any type of multi bladed knife/tool. Gerber, leatherman, etc come to mind. Mainly, the mechanics get the most use out of these types of tools. You may want to contact the local national guard armories in your area. Most soldiers know units that are deployed and can get you addresses. Hopefully this helps you guys. I actually have some knives at home I am going to get my wife to send to my replacement unit that comes over in August. Thanks for all your support for the troops over here in the Middle East.
