Introducing The 535 Bugout

If you decide that the Bugout is not for you, consider REI's version of the 531. S30v blade steel and green G10 scales. Swap out the pocket clip for a deep carry or the compact deep carry (when they become available) and you're set. :)

I'm not a big fan of the handles on the 531. As to the BugOut, I was trying to hold out purchasing it until I could get it on sale, until I could feel it in hand, until First Production mark was off the blade, but alas I am not a patient person. Purchased it on preorder online this morning as the local shop already sold out of theirs. It's going to be a long couple weeks waiting on it.

Gotcha. There's a good chance I would have done the same thing. Maybe you will get a standard production model, without first production markings.:) My local dealer has one Bugout. I'm considering it myself.

I really like the BugOut myself. It's like Benchmade designed the BugOut after looking at all the things wrong with the 531. If they would offer the BugOut with textured scales like the Volli, then we would have a perfect knife, IMHO. I would sell both, my 531 and my Volli for that.

Benchmade, thank you !!!!
But any plans to make regular black scales or OD green for it? I prefer the classic colors.

Don't like the handles on the BM531?

Looks like a lightweight version of the Mini-Rukus... which I love, but it's a tank to carry. Will keep an eye out when I pass by my favorite knife shop in Calgary.

Hey guys. Odd request buy would anyone be interested in buying and shipping me a Bugout Stainless Steel to Canada if I send the money first and pay you for your trouble? They have not arrived yet to Canada. Paypal, Bitcoin, whatever works. You have to be a reputable member with several posts for the trust to work. Please let me know if you're interested. I'm excited about this knife as an EDC. Thanks.

First impression is I f***ing love this knife! So incredibly slim and lightweight. Blade is perfect length and shape. Axis lock is nice and smooth as expected. Pocket clip is awesome look and size, but I do need to loosen it up. My knife came with perfect centering and edge grinds to my eye. And man is this thing sharp! Picked it up in a flipping type motion after taking the last pic and it was so light that the edge ended up hitting the side of my finger. Honestly if I hadn't been looking at myself I would have no idea I had cut myself until I saw all the blood because it nicked me so effortlessly. I made sure I didn't bleed on it as I went inside for a bandaid lol. I'm going to be carrying it obviously every day, and if it continues to impress it might be time for me to say goodbye to my 940-2. Benchmade you did awesome job on this knife and @Jordan@DLT yall did a fantastic job filling my order. I had my knife in hand less than 48 hours after I placed my order! Now on to the pics:

Can't wait to finish my custom scales for this model. I'm thinking it will be ranked 1 or 2 for my daily carry. Right now I carry BM707 with custom scales or 1 of five or so Mini-Ritters all with custom scales or the Foray. I really like the Foray as well but it is a bit beefy. Definately could take some abuse or serve harder ise for the ~3" blade.

I have not bought a new Benchmade in over a year or so. This model got me back out in the market. I was not impressed woth the initial 2017 Benchmade line-up. Also very saddened they discontinued the BM710 and BM707; staple models of the brand.

I love this knife, its a great slicer. I have had this for a week, hiking, food prep, cutting, slicing,etc..
I don't mind the blue grivory handles either, and this is a great edc carry.
Thanks Benchmade!

Looks great with that bead too.

Just received mine.
The knife is perfectly centered, ground evenly on both sides of the blade. The issue is side to side blade play. This can't be normal. Tightening the pivot to where there is no play results in a knife blade that you have to manually pull and push the blade in and out to open and close it. Looks like this will have to be returned. I haven't purchased a Benchmade in over a year and thought maybe they had better QC now, but it looks like I was wrong. Just venting a little because of disappointment.....

Anybody else experience this issue?

Nope, mine is perfect. Sorry yours isn't up to snuff DRLyman DRLyman but the shop you bought it from should be able to swap it out for another one at no cost to you. Hope it gets worked out for you.
That's what I'm going to have to do. I may just opt for a refund or store credit, though. I don't want to keep sending back and forth knives at my cost until I get a good one.

I got home from work and was looking at the knife again. Does anyone see what is missing? A quick shot with my iPhone, but I'm sure you can see it. Benchmade QC at it's finest....
