Well, I'm looking forward to seeing this new organization taking off. I know this is coming from a makers point of view, but I definitely think one of the main things it should be doing is bringing in more collectors. That would benefit us all.

Of course this is a good thing. I expect it to grow nicely.

Would you please clarify the below:

Membership Dues Schedule:

One year membership: $50.00
Three year membership: $100.00
Charter Five Year Membership: $500.00 *
Charter Lifetime Membership: $1000.00 *

* Individuals donating/jointing at both these levels would be designated as founding members.
What are the benefits of the Charter packages, please? Nothing is stated outside of a 'Founders' designation. Is there a pending format?

Thanks.

Coop

You are exactly right Phillip. We hope anyone that has anything to do with a custom knife will in someway sometime benefit from this association.

Hi Coop, good question.
We have kicked around some ideas as to possible benefits at the charter membership levels, however currently it's just being designated as having been instrumental in creating an association that will help to move the custom knife industry forward.

I'm dedicated, as others are, to growing this association into an entity that will not only bring in and help educate new collectors but also help to unite established collectors, makers, dealers, engravers, photographers etc. to address issues facing the customs community now and in the future. We will need an organization to do for knife owners what the NRA has done for gun owners. Yes, even the NRA had to start somewhere.

Thought we will experience much enjoyment from this association over the years, we also intend to be a serious organization addressing serious issues which down the road will insure that being a founding member will be something that anyone will be quite proud of.

Even though the 3 year $100 membership is obviously the best value of all, the $500 has been the most popular among our start-up members. Charter memberships will only be offered for a limited time as they help the organization raise start-up capitol.

We would just ask that custom knife enthusiast invest a year or more support in helping us reach our goals for the benefit of all of us.

Thanks for the question Coop, as answering questions was partially the purpose of this thread.

Speaking of clarification, i'd like to be sure of certain things before even considering signing up

1) will this be for forged bowies only?
2) will there be discrimination against any maker (or collector group)?
3) will this include discussion of tactical knives?
4) how will the forums be moderated?

thanks,
RL

RL we are open to forged and stockremoval custom knives, regardless whether it's bowies, hunters, folders or art knives.

2) will there be discrimination against any maker (or collector group)?

This organization is strictly for custom knives and the makers and collectors of such who support the custom knife industry in a positive and constructive manner and support our mission statement. RL, I'm glad you are considering membership.

3) will this include discussion of tactical knives?

Discussion on the forum?

4) how will the forums be moderated?

By moderators in a fair, open minded and respectable but firm manner.

thanks,
RL

I've always been a big fan of photos and visual aids. Will there be any kind of photo section on the site, and if so how would it be set up? Any kind of makers gallerys?

I cannot post in the section asking to introduce ourselves. Is that because I am not an official paid member yet? (on the forum)

Guys,
Just to let you know one thing the CKCA will probably be doing. It will have a Special Projects Committee. They will arrange and send a delegation of Collector/Makers to different cross over venues in the world of collecting. This may involve physically attending events or putting adds in magazines. When possible this will involve showing an actual collection or even demonstrating knife construction, all the while passing on information and contacts.

Our effort would be to expose the world of Custom Knives to those who would collect for collecting's sake and for those who would collect to use.

I for one would like to see someone visit the shops of the older pioneer makers (Loveless, Lake, Horn etc) for a interview on the current state of the knife industry from their perspective. You could make up a standard list of questions as well as any other thoughts and insights that they may be willing to offer. You could tape their answers then transcribe them for a e newsletter. These guys are not getting any younger. It could be a valuable resource for future collectors and makers. I would be willing to help where possible.

Yes Jon you need to be a paid member to post. But we know you are on board. Thanks so much for wanting to be and active member. Look forward to your posts in the future.

Bobby, the above will fall under our plans to have an established collector or maker do a article/interview probably monthly addressing a variety of topics. Not unlike the quarterly piece Buddy Thomason does for the ABS Journal, except we will most likely have a rotating author.

Another thing we will offer is a "Knife of the Month" (or perhaps quarterly).
For example the Fisk Banderlo on the website homepage will be replaced with another knife (forged, stockremoval, folder) and there will be a button to take the viewer to a "Knife of the Month" page where the maker or owner will describe the knife, talk on it's construction or offer an interesting story that may go along with the knife.

The idea is to keep the website fresh with good information that will keep members wanting to come back time and time again.
You will notice there's a "members only section" where much of this information will exist. Knife enthusiast or those interested in the association will be able to browse but only members will be able to access this area.

We will need an organization to do for knife owners what the NRA has done for gun owners.

Kevin - The NRA does quite a bit of political lobbying. I'm assuming (?suggesting) that for the the CKCA it makes sense (for the present, at least) to approach this through linkages with the AKTI (American Knife & Tool Institute) and similar organizations that are already pursuing the specialized and expensive process of lobbying politicians. ???

You are right Buddy, as political lobby is an extremely expensive proposition, however as you said there's more than one way to skin a cat.

It's all about the numbers, as our membership grows we will have more influence and financial strength to affect what laws and regulation are place on our industry.

Hello Kevin,

Could you please name the people who appear on the Graphic Bar displayed
several times on the CKCA WebSite?
To people like myself who visit one show a year in the USA, these faces look
a little familiar. Some more, some less. Our face I can identify, the others
I have met more than once for few seconds but I still need your help..... :)

Thanks and all the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Do you have a logo yet?

Here's the CKCA logo created by the talented STeven Garsson:
