Introducing the "CKCA" (Custom Knife Collector’s Association)

Thanks a lot guys.

The way I see it a collectors association has so much more to add to this industry.

On a side note, I have recently parted from the SBC for personal reasons. One of the reasons why not being there is completely fulfilled by the ideals of the CKCA.

Glad to have you on board Jeff.
We are starting to spread all over the world, and that's a very good thing.

We will keep our annual meeting in Atlanta during the Blade Show to make it a little easier for those members outside the US to attend.

STeven, it was nice talking with again friend. Yes, I can see now why you're so excited about this new custom knife collectors association - you guys have some great members and tons of potential. Although not my balliwick as of yet, if I ever get tired of playing with dirty old RMK's and get hooked on shiny new custom knives, then I'll be wagging the finger of blame your way... ;)

Seriously though; a well thoughtout forum from the looks of it, 'pay to play' makes sense as well. Some folks, myself included, tend to ask forum questions as we think of them, without first making a solid search effort. Listening, reading, and paced learning should be very rewarding for persons with a limited or casual interest in custom knives - joining in the forum conversations once the basics are better understood. (although, a newbie subforum may also prove beneficial, if the flow of the CKCA starts to lean that way).

Best, and thanks again for the heads up,

Sheldon Wickersham

p.s. DDD, we traded a copy of our Randall Knives reference book to our friends the Quinn's for a copy of your 'Great Collections' book - best trade we've made this year...very nice work sir

Sheldon,

Yeah, it sure was nice catching up, ya cigarette smokin' SOB.:D

We hope that the CKCA will be appealing to ANYONE interested in custom knives, not just the main demographic that it is targeted to.

The really cool thing about what we have started is that no one wants to homestead in the organization...we started it, but don't want to HAVE to be in the same position for 20 years or more...we would like it to "belong" to the whole community, and feel that our mission statement is sufficiently broad to allow constant evolution, coupled with our goal of being a non-profit organization....individual members will have almost as much input on how the website grows and evolves as anyone on the founding committee, eventually.

I really wish that you were going to Blade, the Sunday seminar looks to be top notch!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Well time is drawing near. CKCA is ready for Blade show. We look forward to seeing all, Sunday at 10:00 am Room 108.Remember everyone who joins prior to the seminars end will be in the drawing for the J.R.Cook stag hunting knife. It's a very nice piece. ( all paid members will be in the drawing)See you at Blade.

Even those members who are not attending Blade Show?

:D:D:D

Jeff Velasco

Yep. We will draw at the conclusion of the CKCA seminar on Sunday. Every paid CKCA member gets one ticket dropped in and you don't have to be present to win.
I received the knife on Monday and it's a beauty.

Still time to join before Blade Show. That will get your name in the drawing. It's a beauty of a hunter by J.R.Cook.

Thanks for all your hard work. Can I learn the secret handshake? :p

Charter Member James Allen Cooper here.... ;)

Not sure I can make the meeting at Blade. I may not have time to come up for air. Fill me in.

Coop

Funny, after entering my information I'm taken to a Yahoo Sign-in page...

Joss so sorry you have a problem. The webmaster is out right now. AS soon as he returns i'll get your issue fixed.

Wasn't really a problem, once I logged into my Yahoo account. Weird though.

In any case, here I am, charter member like Coop.

That makes me really happy!

While we disagree on some issues, it is nice to have you onboard!

Welcome, and

I'm signed up. See y'all in a few days :D

Thanks to you as well, Don!

We are pretty excited about the possibilities...because nothing like this, by collectors, for collectors has really been done before...the Customs Forums here is about as close as it has gotten, but if everyone takes the time to see what we have laid out, you can see how pro-custom collector centric it really is.....

That said, we ain't even close to done yet....the website as it exists is a shell, or "model home"....as people come onboard, and make implementable suggestions, or better yet, sign up as moderators, or content contributors, we will have links, articles, photos and real-time updates affecting the community up the wazoo! We want this thing to be an enormous monster, and the only way to realize that is to make pride in ownership and community a top priority.

This is NOT about us(the founders), it is not a glorified "we are so cool" effort, it is about complimenting everything that has been done before, adding to it, and taking it(custom knife collecting) into higher areas than have been done before.

Non-profit status is the goal of the organization, and owning/maintaining servers, and highest possible throughput is our immediate intent for whatever income monies are generated.....every person involved in this venture is NOT looking to make money on it...but to increase our(custom knife collectors) profile within the community AND work towards some respect within the world at large.

Thanks for the support, and

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
