Introducing the ESEE DPx H•E•S•T /F (Hostile Environment Survival Tool / Folding)

All's I'm saying is you can pick up a BM710 or Bone Collector with a 4 inch D2 blade for around $125 or much less if you shop around. And the Axis lock aint nothing to sneeze at. OK, granted those don't have a bottle opener and glass breaker..... :D

Not even close to being the same kind of knives.

I love my 710, but hard use? No.

I would gladly go ahead and be confident in this knife, barring some freak manufacturing defect, I know they wouldn't stand behind a knife that wouldn't take everything they threw at it...

It's like, if Busse made a folder, before the proto's were even out, how many people would honestly doubt that it'd be one TOUGH folder? Same thing here, this will be a tough knife...

Hoping the "HEST" on the clip is removed in the final product :\ Hate writing on clips, seems so tacky. Also not really a fan of the logo on the scale, but hopefully that comes off easily like in the fixed blade.

I agree with what was said before; This and the new zt 0550 will just make my day :D

I think it's bad to bone and have a pre-order in as of now. Thanks to the OP for the heads up!!!:D:thumbup:

;)

I think the price is more than worth it for the XTreme Hostile Environment Survival Bottle Opener alone!

Total noob question here, how do pre-orders work? Do you get billed up front or when the product is available and shipped?

The places I've signed up for preorders with previously: it gets your name on a list and when the blade is released you get an email saying it's your turn if you still want it. if you don't respond within 2-3 days you lose your place in line -- different dealers my have different rules, though.

Nowhere near close is more like it.

I like it alot, aside from the homeboy skull thing on the G10.. I can totally see how the price is justified , that appears to be a very well made knife with quality materials , from a quality manufacturer.

D2 ? time proven steel , again and again.

I've seen far lesser knives go for near the same street price.

Anybody else wondering if they can make the wire breaker / bottle opener "wave"??

I dont own one but the 'closed length' is listed on the BM site as 4,84" which would indicate to me a blade length of close to 4".

The BM Bonecollector is 3.36". The small Bonecollector is 2.95"

IMHO for the $50 extra over the Bonecollector the HEST is giving you a 66% thicker blade, rotolock and titanimum not to mention the bottle opener. The HEST is giving up .25" of blade length to the BC. Not hard for me to figure out which I'm getting

I was chewing on that one myself a few days ago. To me, it seems like with the depth of the opener and the angles that it would work. I suppose we won't know until it's released or ESEE/RYP comment about it.

I've been keeping an eye on the other threads here since I first heard of this knife a few days ago. I personally think it will be a very cool knife if you're looking for something with a thick blade and heay(er) duty frame. I'm not huge on the jimping (which is designed to be able to strip and bend different sizes of wire), the bottle opener, or the glass breaker however the knife will ship with a tool to take it off if you so wish.

As far as value goes its definately a lot of knife for the money. Titanium framelock, g10 slab and a D2 blade with the best warranty in the business. Think about it, this is like the knife everyone wished Strider was. I'm not looking to start any arguments here but Strider's CS is definately not highly regarded. With ESEE backing this folder up you can be sure that if you break it or if it has manufacturing issues it will be replaced no questions asked in a timely manner. This knife also incorporates the new Rotoblock which is a very ingenious feet of engineering and adds a lot of value to the price alone. There's only one other knife out there with this feature and it costs a lot more. I'm definately not a ESEE fanboy either as don't own any of their knives but I will definately be checking this one out.

However a good point was brought up about how ESEE is a fixed blade company and this will be their introduction to folders. Sometimes companies are better staying with what the excel at however this folder is not produced by ESEE. It is contracted out to Lionsteel which, from what I hear, is an excellent folder maker. They have plenty of experience in the field.

It will be interesting to see peoples thoughts on these when they come out, I'll definately be taking a look.

As far as price also, with the warranty that goes along with the HEST/F, is better than that of other companies folders until you get into Strider,CRK which is in the $350-$700 price range. I for one, am definitely willing to pay a little more for such a great warranty. Show me another folder with a warranty equal to the HEST/F and the price its going for or cheaper with equivalent materials. I'd most likely be interested in it as well.

Looks like I'm the voice in the wilderness here. Guess I should just drink the Kool-Aid and join the party huh? :D

Not really, blind faith is not a good characteristic when buying any products you were good to point it out.
