Just checking in to say that I removed the scales from the handle. First off, they are milled out quite a bit, which is nice. Second, my screws were tightened down by Husky Hank, and can report that they weren't at risk of falling off. But, I can also report that the handle is awful without the scales. The entire thing is a hot spot because the edges are in no way chamfered. If I remember my calculation, it saves about 1.3oz to have scales and screws removed. Just thought I'd share!
Hopefully this thread isn’t too old to reply, as I couldn’t find any other mention of someone removing the scales. When you say they are milled out, are they beveled in any way to nest into the milling of the blade handle? Looking at the photos of the scales removed on CRK’s site, it looks like the rear screw/post is free floating in the middle of the blade handle milling.

Is there anything stopping the scales from pivoting around the front screw, sliding up and down towards the back?

I can’t find any photos of the inside of the micarta scales, so if you feel like taking photos the next time you disassemble it, I would greatly appreciate it. I’m considering picking one up at the exorbitant second hand prices, as it would make for my perfect edc fixed blade and steel. My OCD had to notice the screw spacing though and raise concern for the scales moving out of perfect alignment 😅

I haven't had the scales off my Inyoni, but I have given it some pretty hard use and sharpened it a couple times and the scales have been as secure as can be with no signs of wiggle, budging or shifting at all.

I got a product arrival notice for a backpacker earlier this week but didn't see it for 20 minutes and they were long gone by then. But at least a couple have been coming out of the factory.

I figure that even the friction of the scales with the screws snugged down all the way would be enough to keep them lined up, but my favorite thing about CRK’s is not having to fiddle with alignment of parts when doing a tear-down.

It’s such a perfect design for my uses, I may just order it anyways and post a full disassembly myself. I can’t imagine that being a design oversight, to be able to put the scales on off-center.

I cancelled my order about a year ago now. Wasn’t impressed.

edit: This was after I was informed the 9-12 month lead time moved to 2-3 years. (I placed the direct order within 2hr of them releasing it)

What a coincidence! I just got an email from a retailer that they got a few in, so I was able to snag one. Lucky I was in front of the computer when the email came. I've received a few of these emails before but always missed out. If anyone really wants one of these, I suggest signing up to be notified when in stock with several of the online retailers. You might get lucky like I just did.

I have gotten notices from two retailers lately. The first time I saw it within 5 minutes and they were gone.
Yesterday I didn't see the GPK email till an hour later and of course they were long gone.

Granted I ended up ordering a Benchmade carbon fiber Freek (Super Freek) while I was on there...
