Hopefully you will like the Nexus, its a cool machine and cant beat the price. (i want one just to root and overclock it, see what it can do.)
Have you found a browser for your phone yet? How do you like dolphin? (my current choice) and btw dolphin has a desktop mode toggle that you can dowload from the play store.

Looks like the Nexus 7 is it.

I'm going to have to take a leap of faith; no Staples stores anywhere close.

I did some poking around, and it looks like Sam's Club, Office Depot, and Gamestop also sell the Nexus 7. Finding a store that actually has one in stock might be a different matter. At least maybe you can find a floor model to demo, and then order one online if you want. Wait until the 29th to order though; that's when the 32gb comes out for the current price of the 16gb.

We have an Office Depot; I'll go down there and check it out. SWMBO has other budget priorities right now, so I have to wait anyway.

As for a phone browser, I have tried Dolphin, Chrome, and another one I don't recall the name of. None of them would allow the pop up login box to come up.

Personally, I'm not a fan of apple products but the iPads aren't bad for simpler tasks (reading ebooks/PDFS, playing games etc.) I have a few friends with them who are happy with theirs. I recently messed around with the Samsung Slate and was VERY impressed by it. Albeit more expensive than the iPad, it's much more capable. I was using Solidworks on it which is a 3D modelling program and it had no troubles at all running it. Its really more of a PC. I like that it can run full-fledged programs rather than app versions of the software. It's also very slim and lightweight but doesn't feel flimsy or fragile whatsoever. If I were to get a tablet, that'd be it.

Some specs on the Google Nexus 10 have been leaked. 1.7GHz quad core processor, 2GB RAM, and a 10.1", 2560 x 1600 resolution screen (~300 pixels per inch  ). No word yet if it has expandable memory or HDMI out (which the Nexus 7 lacks). No idea on price either, but it's certain to give the iPad 4 more than enough run for its money.

I've looked at the Surface tablet, and I'm a bit leery of it because of Windows 8, and the cost.

I have a nice laptop that goes with me if necessary, so I'm not looking to replace it. I want a tablet that can do a few things, and do them well, without having the bulk and weight of the laptop.

I just read an article that said after Apple announced the iPad Mini, Amazon Kindle Fire HD sales tripled. Seems I'm not the only one disappointed in the Mini.

The Kindle Fire HD is going to be a great entertainment platform, but for someone like me, who wants more productivity apps, it's a dud.

I still want to get my hands on an iPad mini just so I can say I did, but I keep going back to the Nexus 7.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I had every intention of purchasing a Nexus 7 or even a 10, but I was surprised this morning with a new generation iPad!

I'm posting from it now, and so far, I like it.

More to follow.

I have both ipad2 and nexus 7.
I use the ipad for games, checking the web.
The nexus 7 to me has a lot more flexibility. I can copy and paste any file I want from my home nas, which comes in handy when wanting to save pdf files, pictures, music, photos. Just do it wireless, connect to my nas or pc and put it on my nexus. no need to sync/connect with a cable to my pc. It plays way more video file types than ipad, and more powerful too. HD files play smooth no skipping. The only thing I do not like is it is smaller than the ipad, I am getting old, and a bigger screen makes it more enjoyable. but the size and portability is great, battery like is EXCELLENT! But so is the ipads. The nexus 16gb is half the cost of the ipad2 16gb.

I have Dropbox on all my computers, my phone, and the iPad, so viewing and editing my files aren't an issue.

I did add Log me in to my iPad, laptop, and both of my desktops, and that is working very well too.

I may get a nexus 7 down the road, but for now, the iPad will have to do. If I went and bought the Nexus 7 right now, it would highly offend and upset my wife.

get a tablet with windows 8. everything else is just a smartphone with a bigger screen.

I looked at a Surface tablet, and I liked it, except for the price.

The current model available uses Windows RT, which is a tablet version of Win8. You cannot use most Windows based programs on it. The version with Win8 Pro isn't due out until after the first of the year, and the base price is over $700.00. For that, you might as well get an ultrabook.
