Is a 120 dollars too much for this knife?

If you like those lines maybe look at the bark river sts-3 in 154cm. Dlt trading has em for around 130 after using the coupon code.

Coupon code you say? Where would one find this coupon code? It'll look good when I tell the ol' lady that I bought another knife..."But I had a coupon, dear! I actually SAVED money buying this knife!" :D

I think that's the MSRP, You could find it a bit cheaper if you look around a little bit.

This comment makes no sense to me. AUS8 is a "better" steel than 12c27, when you look at their respective compositions. I'm not knocking 12c27, it's a good steel and one of my favorites, but in no way would the knife be worth $120 if it was 12c27 instead of AUS8.

If you like it, buy it. Don't worry about what others think. It's your knife. It will do anything you need that style of knife to do.

It's funny how steels go in and out of vogue through the years. I remember a time when, next to ATS34, AUS8 was the 2nd "best" steel on the market and many of the factories premium quality knives were made of it.

My personal thoughts when buying a knife is if I'm looking to spend more than $100, I check out the maker's on here first.

i was just thinking about what other steels boker plus uses besides 440c or aus-8 and 12c27 was the only one that came to mind (i dont even know if they use 12c27 anymore)

but you are right. i chinese made knife using 12c27 probably wouldnt be worth the 180 dollar retail. maybe perhaps s30v or 154cm would be a better choice but it would be pointless to put an american steel on a chinese made knife, the price would skyrocket.

thats just my opinion, im no steel expert so i may be wrong on this subject.

They must really think alot of that one. It's too bad they did'nt make that one in Germany,it is a nice design. But,a Chinese made AUS8 knife at a discounted $120 is plain rediculous.

I found this knife: Boker Plus 02BO269 Elegance Voxknives Rhino Stag Knife for $56 with 12c27 steel.

I won't mention where cuz it's not allowed :D

looks very similar tho...

I found it! It's a good looking knife and a much better price. I also saw the Vox Access Tool and that thing looks pretty nifty. I may have to get one to play with.

Im a huge fan of vox, met him several times at NYCNS great designs great guy a little pricey but worth it. Shop around.

It's not the best deal but you determine what it's worth. If you live the style and thickness an can't find another like it then you classy it as priceless. It's not the best steal but it's not bad either. If your not a steel snob it will mater a lot less then you think.

The design itself is questionable, IMO: a blade that thick but too short for any effective chopping = borderline useless.

It's priced at $111 today and only you can decide if it's worth the price (to you), I have several AUS8 blades and they've never given me a problem. I'm sure ALL of us could find a knife that we'd prefer at that price but this knife caught your eye and if feel that you'd like to own it and use it then you should go ahead and buy it.

As far as being overpriced, if you look at many of the SOG brand fixed blades you'll see that many use AUS8 and almost all of them are priced well over the $111 plus shipping price point. Do what makes you happy.
Best of luck.

I have the Boker (Solingen) Pry-Mate, a similar Vox design but having a straighter, almost Wharncliffe-style, blade - also 7 mm thick at the spine/tang. I have fondled the Boker Plus 'Bob' at a local dealer - it's, like my Boker Plus Gnome, Mosier, and stag Rhino (All Sandvik 12C27 steel and all decent quality - but not in the same league, quality-wise, as the German made Pry-Mate. Additionally, the 'Bob', at $120, is twice what the most expensive Boker Plus I mentioned runs - and two thirds the cost of the German-made Pry-Mate with it's Bohler BO690BO steel.

To paraphrase MikeH (Hi Mike!), it's worth is what you will pay for it. If you want it, grab it. I wouldn't!

Stainz

Do you want it? that's the thing,AUS-8 is fine and I've been eyeing one myself-but do know they have a similar one,a bit smaller, for $30

However it all comes down to want and cash, leave the steel snob behind on such a decision.
