Are Emerson knives worth the price? The fit and finish is horrible, the blade steel is 154cm, and its a liner lock for $250. ZT makes a better Emerson than Emerson does. Hope this one will stay open long enough for people to read and comment.

Some say yes, some say no.

I'm going to take a wild guess that you are in the "no" group...;)

I picked one up on the exchange for considerably less than retail. Fit and finish wasn't bad. Had to break it in. It's a different flavor of knife. That being said I'll let someone else drive it off the lot and take the hit when they sell it to me.

Well what do you think? Do you think the fit and finish is excellent? Do you think that the 154cm steel is worth the price they charge? Do you think ZT does a better job?

I've heard that their quality control has been getting better, but I'm not interested in them myself

I bought a Super CQC-8 because I like the design, so I guess I thought it was worth the money.
However, the place I bought it at now has a price before shipping and tax that is $100 more than I paid to get it in hand...I don't think it is worth that amount.

The CQC-12 (titanium frame-lock) that I got is worth what I paid for it, but to me it's not worth what I'd have to pay now.

I also have some ZT's that I like.

Is one worth more than the other? That is up to each person to decide.

Both brands find their way into my pockets.
Both cut stuff.
Neither have fallen apart, or failed in any way.

Maybe buy one that appeals to you off the exchange at a lower price and decide for yourself. You can just sell it if it doesn't meet your expectations. I own a super cqc 8 and love it. Have no complaints. In the end only you can decide if it meets your wants n needs. Good luck

The great thing about economic freedom is that you get to decide yourself if it's worth the price to you! My CQC7 mini is a fine knife. I figure it'll last longer than I'll live, like many of my knives.

After your recent rant in the Emerson sub forum I think you have an issue with something that goes beyond the price of the knives.

Too many cool knives out there at any price point to hate on any one.

You don't like the price or steel or whatever just move along the interwebs. There is something out there for everyone.

As for are Emersons worth it? They are to those that buy them and enough people do to keep the business going.

I love my mini roadhouse, but I don't think it is worth what I paid for it. Also I'm not trying to start an argument but I wouldn't purchase another emerson product, I bent the clip on my mini roadhouse and when I tried to contact them about a replacement they said I could buy one but shipping came out to almost $60.00. When I contacted them again they didn't reply. Meanwhile I bent the clip of one of my BMs that cost 1/5 the price and they sent me 2 clips and hardware free.

I will not buy an Emerson for the price, not even used. Not that I don't have the money, I just think Emerson is ripping people off and I won't support that. ZT makes an Emerson knife that is new for 2015. It's s35vn blade, Ti frame lock, and the fit and finish is far better. I will be buying the ZT Emerson. I like the design of the CQC8. Love the banana blade, but not for the price Emerson charges or the quality. hold an Emerson side by side with the ZT version and you will see what im talking about.

I was just holding an Emerson in one hand, and a ZT in the other.
I like them both. :)

So I figured maybe it would be different if I switched hands...nope, still like them both.

No need for the fallacies of argument (ie. your first statement). Your observation couldn't be more wrong. The issue is the price of the knife. If emerson was half the price I would buy one.

Will buy what we like even if the price is not right, no is my answer to emerson and no to zt, I always end up selling both:), which is better? you decide buy one of each and sale the one you do not like.

You're holding the ZT emerson in your hard? And you don't notice that one is a liner lock and the other is a Ti frame lock? And that makes no difference to you?

Emerson uses 154cm for a reason. It's good steel that is heat treated right and can be easily sharpened in the field. His knives are meant to be used. A tool. The designs are very ergonomic and built for hard use. He sells a LOT of knives without spending hardly anything on advertising. His knives sell by word of mouth. If you don't like them, that's fine. Buy something else.

I was referring to your making comments on the maker himself in that post. Seems a lot of hate over pricing.
