Is Emerson Worth the Price

I have several Emersons and two ZTs now and another one tomorrow (I hope). I had a ZT 0562cf and sold it. Nice knife with great material and construction, but just did not feel right in operation to me. The ZTs I have and one coming are the 0620cf (in my pocket right now), the 0620, and tomorrow will be taking delivery of an 0630. I love Emerson's designs, how they feel, how they work for me. I love the way ZT has executed those designs. And a great value, as someone else noted, keeping even the CF/M390 less than $250.

But I also have a bunch of Emersons - the cKarambit and superK were first and still my only folding K-bits. Also have the fixed k-bit, and carry the horseman and traveler quite a bit. And CQC7 and K-bit trainers. Yes, I read all the posts about F&F, material quality, liner locks, etc, but the material costs do not outweigh the design and materials are very acceptable. So you can see where I come down: supersteels are a bonus, at least some sort of good steel (incl 154cm) is essential, high quality construction (F&F) is essential and I have no QC issues with mine. But the deciding factor for me on value is whether the design stands out and it definitely does with my Emersons. There may be other models that my hand and operating system would not like, but the ones I like I really like. To be honest, I avoided Emersons for a long time. I'm a big spydie fan and it used to be everyone would talk about how ugly those were, but they work great and now offer more premium materials than just about anyone. I still have a lot of spydercos and a few BMs, but after I finally tried Emersons, I understand why he has such a loyal customer base. His knives are great.

I was just answering questions that were asked. Didn't mean to get your blood pressure up.

My blood pressure isn't up in the slightest. First you bring in some weak anecdotal evidence as proof that your opinion is somehow factual "Well I know a bunch of guys who all agree with me!" and then it's suddenly about the corporate finances? Of a company that isn't even publicly traded? What? So, it was amusing to see you try to act like some super stockbroker when roughly a thirty millisecond application of Googlefu would have told you that EKI isn't even available for you to condescendingly add to your portfolio. Good attempt though.

As I said, it's clear you have a drum to beat. Problem is, we're already on the next song. Song? Hell, we're on the next album. That one you're blasting was played out a long time ago. Bummer.

Lol, invest in a knife company? You won't even invest in their knives. Besides are.they offering their stock to the public?

Saw your post in the Emerson forum and figured you might have one over here.

I haven't read all these responses so may be repeating a few things but.....

First you need to define "worth" it is a relative term

Is fit and finish important
Is ease of sharpening important
Is edge retention important
Is country of origin important
Is the companies character important
Is cool factor important
Is warranty important
Is ease of take down important

Anyway you get the idea

Next

Are you a knife lover, knife user, or possibly both?
Many guys on here just like knives and don't really use them, so keeping the thing pretty is important. I've been guilty of this, but as I age I am coming to the conclusion of what good is a knife I just flick open?

If I have a user knife I want something easy to sharpen like 154 or A2, because I have used every steel out there, and guess what? They will all get dull QUICK if being used. Emersons are EASY to resharpen.

I also like a knife if I am "using" it, I don't mind dropping or getting dirty. Emersons fit that bill too.

Speaking of dirt I'd much rather clean an Emerson than a bearing system on a ZT/

I also like supporting American made products, and yes other makers are American made, but Emerson meets that criteria for me as well.

I also appreciate Ernest Emerson's personal journey in the martial arts. His pedigree is impressive.

Lastly I am a military contractor, and it cracks me up when people talk about what the military uses and how it all works. I've seen contracts for both the DoD and DoS with Moras, Benchmade, Gerber, Leatherman, Strider, Emerson, and Kershaw.

Contracts can be drawn up by hot little women in the private sector who know nothing about knives. I have found that most guys whether they are reservists or DEVGRU have their own preferences, and usually carry what they like when it comes to knives. I've also noticed too that they all prefer function over fit and finish.

It would be cool if you could post some pics of your knives that you actually use, so we could all see your favorite users. I have a feeling you have some pristine ZT's

Take care

Ok you win lol. You got me!

Buck, Ontario and more are public. I was speaking in general. I never said I would invest in Emerson.

Since this will probably get locked soon (unless we get more pics of cool beer) it's time for the moral of the story: Stick with that Fantoni down there you're trying to sell, and you'll be happy, and all will be right with the world.

We let this one run on longer than the other and we haven't learned anything about Emersons we hadn't known before. We also knew where this was going to end up, and it has.

Opinions about knives are good. Opinions about each other, not so much. Enough.

Hope this one will stay open long enough for people to read and comment.

You are lucky you haven't been infracted for trolling. Posting a thread in the Emerson forum entitled "Emerson Knives Are Overpriced Junk"? Sounds like pot stirring. Going forward, please keep the criticism reasoned and the tone civil.
