Is Emerson Worth the Price

I'm very happy with my 7, Gentleman Jim and Persian. The fit and finish are on par with knives I buy from other makers and they fit in nicely in my collection. The new ZT 0620 I got was a beauty...but was just...too heavy...too much like a brick for me.

OP, what Emersons have you gotten with the horrible F & F?

You're holding the ZT emerson in your hard? And you don't notice that one is a liner lock and the other is a Ti frame lock? And that makes no difference to you?
He might be holding his titanium frame lock cqc-12.

Emerson uses 154cm for a reason. It's good steel that is heat treated right and can be easily sharpened in the field. His knives are meant to be used. A tool. The designs are very ergonomic and built for hard use. He sells a LOT of knives without spending hardly anything on advertising. His knives sell by word of mouth. If you don't like them, that's fine. Buy something else.

I didn't say it was a bad steel. But for the price it's not a "super steel" bring the price down and it becomes a worthy knife. Let me put it this way, if Mora charged $200 for their knife would everyone rave how good a knife it is? Probably not

I've had knives from plenty of big names out there. Of them, I just prefer the Emerson line. As already mentioned, they're not for everyone.

Why even ask if they're worth it when you're already convinced that they are "overpriced junk"?

"Worth the price" is entirely subjective. I like my Mini Commander a lot, so it's worth the price to me. I've had some other models that I didn't warm up to as much, so they weren't worth it to me. Same could be said of any brand.

Are Emersons worth the price? They just had to expand their production lines, they couldn't make them fast enough to satisfy demand. So, yes, they are worth it to their customer base.

This collaboration with ZT may be more of the same, getting valued designs in customer hands. I do think ZT was a great choice of partner for this. Collaborating allows each company to make the kind of knife they are best at, while opening up a new market with people that weren't completely satisfied with some aspects of the original Emersons.

Because I want to see how everyone feels. I know how I feel about it, just want to see if the majority of people are in line with my thoughts. Lots of knife guys feel the way I do.

There is a Emerson "thing" that is hard to describe beyond the 154CM/chisel grind/Emerson F/F stuff. The non custom's are made to be used like a tool, you either get "it" or you don't, they are unique in that regard.

Personally I don't think they are worth it, but that hasn't stopped EKI from selling a whole bunch of 'em.

Dunno, seems to me you're looking for a way to have people support your POV and trash a particular product. I admit that emersons are not for me but as Esav mentioned, they just expanded production capacity. That would be a good indicator of how many people think they are worth the money.

What percentage does Emerson get?

No idea and I won't claim to.

You know, the price of the Emerson knives is on the high end. The 0620cf that I have is a very good knife as well as the Emerson knives I own as well. However I see the 0620 as underpriced and I applaud ZT for being able to bring what they do to the market.

I don't like Emerson's price for what it is and most people that I deal with don't like the price either; people at knife shows, shop owners, friends, family, knife makers, the list goes on. The only people I've seen that like them for that price are online. I like Emerson's design and knife, once again, not for the price.

When i bought my first emerson a super commander bt i wasnt thrilled at all but i later purchased a hd7 and custom cqc45 those last two are unreal nice especially the custom it opens like its on glass and after understanding what emersons are all about i really like the brand and the maker. Will i buy another production model most likely not will i buy more customs if i can afford them absolutely.

^This, especially the bolded part.

I don't own any as they aren't for me, but it's clear the majority of knife people are not in line with your thoughts, as you put it. If the majority of people that buy these products (knives) were in line with your thoughts, Emerson would not be selling knives at the rate that they do. So I think you have the answer you were looking for already.

How much should you pay for the last knife you'll ever need?

Sure, maybe they're a few bucks more than they should be but I don't mind supporting a good American company that actually seems to have a soul, just like their knives.
