Is Emerson Worth the Price

Well until we know their financials we don't really know if they're over charging. What percentage profit is considered over charging on a knife? In my business 10% is all that that competition will allow. Although supply and demand kick in during busy times and I can pull more profit, we generally sit around 10%. I deal with much larger numbers than the knife industry so dollar wise I might make more, but percentage wise I doubt it.

Why are their financials any business of ours again? If someone asked me that question, I would kindly tell them what they could with their nosy and off color questions. Seriously, who cares, and why do you so much?

I don't quite understand why you're concerned enough to start threads about what BladeForums members will or won't pay for an Emerson when one could say you're pretty much pushing the same limits with the knife you have in your signiature line. If I feel a company charges too much for a knife, I don't buy it - the same goes for individual sales (I do have a few Emersons).

I just don't think there is any merit in starting a public opinion poll about a well established, highly successful knife company. Yes, you'll get a bunch of opinions on both sides. But so what? Nothing will be decided. Do you need those opinions to justify your own? Probably not. If you really want to make a public statement, you'd be more justified if you actually owned and used a knife, and then wrote a solid review.

If a company is publically traded then the financials are public. So if I want to invest then I would definitely want to know that. It also lets you know where you should be in comparison with other companies in your similar industry. this is a knife forum, about everything that relates to knives, so I like knowing how the industry works as a whole including the business side of things. I find it interesting and it also helps me align value to products. It's not out of the ordinary to want to know these things. That's why there are entire schools devoted to these topics.

Is this worth $7 a bottle?

I'm pretty sure EKI isn't publicly traded.

You keep speaking as though you're a huge business school master observator who's teaching us about finance, instead of what you're coming off as: a troll with a drum to beat. Good luck with your longterm membership prospects.

Pro-tip: none of us need financial advise from you, thanks.

Are Emerson knives worth the price? The fit and finish is horrible, the blade steel is 154cm, and its a liner lock for $250. ZT makes a better Emerson than Emerson does. Hope this one will stay open long enough for people to read and comment.

If ya wanna see the show, ya gotta buy a ticket... ;)

If someone wants to check out an Emerson, they'll eventually find one (new or used) at a price they're willing to pay. Let's face it: Emerson is a brand recognized by many a knife-nut. Many will be curious. Some will buy. Some will like 'em and others... no. Same with any other knife under the sun, really.

Emerson Horseman

Hope you find the answers you're looking for, OP! :)

Enough has been said about what price the market will bare. Obviously the market has spoken and feels they are worth the price.

I am getting the feeling that people feel that Mr Emerson is charging too much and gouging the consumer, that he is just in it to make money. I have met the man and he seems like a very humble family man of moderate means. He makes enough to support his family, and if he is over charging and rolling in the dough he is hiding it well. People don't realize how hard and expensive it is to run your own small business, especially in the USA and especially in California and especially in LA. He is employing skilled craftsman and helping them provide for their families. In order to do this, he has to charge a premium price and I for one am willing to buy one of his knives, and if it is a premium price I am willing to do so to support a local family run business.

All are carried in rotation. I only own one ZT and plan to buy more of the new line for 2015. I don't collect knives for a case. Anything else you would like to Assume?

Lets see some of those frame locks you put through their hard use paces

Emerson, Spyderco, Zero Tolorence, Cold Steel, etc. Plus fill in the blank, so all have loyal fans of their products. One of my pet peeves with salespeople are those who trash competation.

I would rather hear why their product is superior, better, or has features the competation don't have. Rather than say the "X" BRAND is junk.

Apprently you do not like Emerson, and have a lover for ZT. Great, be happy buy what you like, and do not buy what you do not like.

If the boss issues you an Emerson, and company or department policy is only to use issued equipt. NO personal equiptment allowed, use the Emerson on the job, and do as you lke on your own time.

JMO

BTW I own an Emerson, a couple of Spyderco's, and a Swiss Army knife because I like those knives. I use em all, no safe queens, not a collector of many knives.

This stuff is released every Feb. grab some while you can.

I was just answering questions that were asked. Didn't mean to get your blood pressure up.
