Is Jesus God?

So is thinking you can explain away the amazing miracle that is life. Life has a well deserved reputation for being sacred. If you think science has or can ever answer the big questions, you will be seriously disappointed.

what are the 'big questions'?

mankind doesn't seem to think life is sacred: abortion, war, death penalty, bombing cities, homicide, etc.

The important question is what kind of swords did the disciples bring Jesus.
And when he said two is enough, did he mean per person? Or is that a group total?

I don't know, but I bet they were damascus.:D

I will say something that ins't very popular. No matter where you are or who you are or what you believe, Jesus is God. Thats just the way it is. Please do not make me argue my point, as it will will become an argument. Just keep what I have said in the back of your head.

I most assuredly will not.
And just because:

Are you REALLY interested to know what it means?

no one knows what 'it really means', other than the person who wrote it...
and that assumes he intended it to have hidden meaning, and not to be just be filler or eloquent, without meaning...

as many interpretations as readers...
some will see it as revelation, others as meaningless...you see what you want to

and you know this how? seriously, you have proof...or you have convinced yourself?
many Jews and Muslums will beg to differ

Not popular? I've heard it a hundred times from different people in my lifetime. Seems a common enough pronouncement.

There are a couple of different, but very similar trains of thought (commentaries) which help to clarify what that verse is meant to imply, and I suspect that most Christians would find agreement in one or another of them... or perhaps in a combination of them. We might not all agree in our exact, detailed understanding of the verse (because that's impossible), but we would probably agree to the greatest extent as to the verse meaning. The "glass" mentioned for example is a mirror... and most Christians who actually study the bible would probably come to that conclusion.

But I digress... You didn't REALLY want to know what it commonly means anyway.;)

The language of religion is full of obscurity. This article is an example. Just give it a try.

I've had similar discussions with my cousin, and he probably is as familar with the Bible as anyone here (or almost anywhere)
he's been studying it for 40 years, a Vatican Scholar, Bishop, etc.
he cautions against strict literal interpretations...it's a guide book, parables, not a history text

Interesting... I only had a chance to peruse a couple of pages, but it intrigued me enough that I'll go back and read the rest later. Thanks for the link.:)

You bet. Personally I always find it interesting to wade through the thought processes inherent to another's philosophy. Historically I find the subject fascinating. As a guide to life, some of it is good. But IMO, much of it is akin to catching a gnat. Lots of energy expended for very little return.

Amazing how people think isn't it? See the same thing but describe it differently... perceptions built upon their own experiences which are never the same as anyone else's experiances... always fascinating.

It's a "seeing the glass half full of water or half empty" sort of thing... but of course in reality, the glass is neither half full or half empty because in the strictest sense, the class is completely full (half the glass is full of water, the other half of the glass is full of air).:D

1 Corinthians 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

The passage means that we only see part of the story while we are alive here on earth, but when we die and are face to face with God we will know the whole story, in the same way that God already knows the whole story about us.

I had to come back to this, I can't just let it go unresolved. I capitulate; you win. Jesus is God.

Now that that weighty question is settled, on to something really important. What's for supper?

Andy

The big questions are:

Where did we come from?
What should we do while we are here/how should we behave?
Where are we going when we die?
