Is Jesus God?

That's not the teaching of all Christianity

ALL christianity says that you HAVE to believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, came to earth and died on the cross to save you from your sins. There is no grey area there. The Dhali Lama goes to hell, Ghandi goes to hell. The criminal who accepts in the last moments of his life...goes to heaven. Proof? When Jesus died on the cross he brought one to heaven with him.

Another HUGE flaw I see in christianity.

Thank You.

I just would like to add: I do believe in God, just a nondenominational one. That the way we live our lives is what we will be judged upon, the content of our character - not our faith in any particular man made organization or cult.

The cross is offensive to those that don't accept what it truly is. There's no way around that.

This is a question which can only be answered by yourself. As a Christian I would only ask anyone to seek out the truth for themselves straight from the source and not from any experience with people.People will always disappoint you if you are looking to them for spiritual answers.

if you don't ask 'people' whom do you ask?
are you saying you need to 'talk to God' thru prayer?
isn't that the same as talking to a person (youself)?

Many people have died for what they believe to be true. Take for instance suicide bombers.

No one would die for what they know to be a lie or hoax.

Many of Jesus' disciples died gruesome deaths for not denying him for they were in positions to know that he was God and that they personally saw him resurrected.

you have to assume the Bible to be accurate fact to believe that
perhaps he pulled a 'chris angel' on them?

My belief is that the Bible is the inspired word of God.I'm saying that you can't trust anyone to tell you what it is saying.I saying I would no more ask a new Christian to listen to what some are saying about Christianity than I would ask a new convert Muslim to listen to one of the attackers on 9-11.

my Church is the only true church, the Catholic Church, founded by Christ and his disciples, directly traced to the source
all others are false
disprove it

see why this is pointless?
sort of defeats the whole purpose of religion
to lead better, more productive, compassionate lives, without judgement of others (with the dangled carrot of eternal bliss, death is really scary to some, their ego can't accept they will cease to exist)

you mean the new christians that shoot doctors?
or burn korans?

I need to know the man before I start asking life guidance questions...not his religion....and chances are if he starts pontificating and denigrating I've got my answer....run

I agree with you about knowing the man but your trust has to be in something bigger than him.He is just a man and will make mistakes and wrong chioces.Sometimes you do need to... run.

I consider myself to be a Christian and a good person but I might pontificate and even denigrate on occasion before I come to my senses and repent.

This has been an interesting dialogue on this thread. To answer the OP, yes, I believe Jesus is God. I could quote Bible verse after verse such as in this helpful link - http://www.biblebelievers.com/jmelton/deity.html which provides an excellent representation of Jesus from the scriptures.

I could also reference writing from the likes of CS Lewis in his book Mere Christianity where he wrote a very famous statement about Christ (see link at beginning) http://www.whoisjesus-really.com/english/claims.htm

In the end though, I must tell you that after becoming a Christian some 25 years ago I have seen the transforming power of Christ in my own life, my wife and my kids. He has been the foundation for our lives and always will be.

Here is your invitation –

Ephesians 4:14-15 (King James Version)
14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Let's watch the language and jerk-it smileys please. Y'all can believe what you want, and everyone has a voice here. However, standard HI forum civility is still going to be upheld. For any new guys, those are the rules. Also, I utterly despise the political arena and what usually goes on in there. So as long as everything remains a heated and friendly debate...and nothing else, this thread is fine. If y'all want to take it down the sewer pipe, then we'll just move the thread over there to play in the slop.
...now please continue, friends:)

Christianity, minus all the worshiping zombies, does offer one of the most benign and kindly guides for living a life.

The jews and old testament - gave us the 10 commandments, but were still pretty brutal "an eye for an eye" and a lot writes and rules/regulations that are intrinsically a part of the jewish culture, so not quite so easy to access to the masses as christianity.

christianity - gave us the golden rule and let he who is without sin cast the first stone, the parables. Nothing really bad in there, and of course it continues on with the 10 commandments so we keep that nice bit going while losing some dogmatic practices like sacrifices, etc. Dropping the overtly jewish practices of the religion (circumcision, etc) opened it up to other people that might not have found the 10 commandments except for the christian version. Good thing they did too. Those rules are what modern western society is founded on. It's basically judaism light, kinda sorta but a kindlier gentler version. (as written) not as practiced by some through out the last 2000 years of course - spanish inquisition, many others etc.
I'm no hater of christian principles as a guide to living a good life, they seem downright kindly to me. Just leave out the 2000 year old zombie worshiping dogma that people bundle with those wonderful principles.

Bloody religion rears it's ugly head eh?

Your question is like asking is the Hulk Spiderman - is one fictional being another fictional being. This thread is doomed and in the interests of sanity I will ignore it.

Leave it to an AUSIE to cut through the horse crap and say it straight ! How refreshing.

Well if YOU see a flaw, all the millions that believe must be morons because based solely on your internet prowess, my religion must be FUPA.

Gentlemen, we cannot allow deliberate insults. The jerkit icon has no place in the Cantina under any circumstances. If you cannot post with respect for the other members here, you will be removed from this discussion.

The pope is the supreme leader of Catholicism correct ? He said that very thing himself, a while back ago in a big speech. It was all over the news. So I'm sorry to have to call bullshit on your statement.
The fact is I was raised christian, went to a fire and brimstone southern baptist church and school both where they used to beat the children all the time for the littlest of things. Many, many years I heard their preachings, sitting right there in the pews. Over and over and over again it was drummed into our heads that ANYONE who does not accept jesus as savior will burn in hell for eternity. I asked questions..." What about an aborigine that never heard the gospel or even jesus name" ? Answer ? They will burn in hell 4ever because if they wanted to know, god would have sent a missionary to tell them about jesus !! Even in 7th grade I saw that those people were wackos and I wanted not to be like them or follow their mind numbing bullshit.
I am so happy christianity worked out for some of you and you have faith in it. For some of us it's utter poppycock and a complete waste of people's lives.

I will say a positive note about christianity. The principals contained in the book itself, the golden rule especially and the 10 commandments have been spread far and wide because of christianity. Those are good things - the idea that we must pray to a zombie jew to enter heaven though is out of the ballpark wacko. Sorry if I am insensitive to your religious beliefs, but your religious beliefs say I'm going to burn 4ever so.......:jerkit:
So because some people you met taught you something that didn't jive with your superior intelligence, then the whole thing must be a sham? makes sense. I'm sure Jesus appreciates being called a zombie Jew.
I'm a Christian; meaning I believe Jesus died for my sins. This is very important to me (as it should be for all) because I sin like a SOB. I'm as imperfect as they come. I DO NOT expect others to judge all Christians based upon my personality/attitude because I am NOT a good representative of perfection just as those folks in your childhood church were not. There in lies the beauty of it all. We ARE NOT perfect to varying degrees. I cuss, been in loads of fist fights and generally mean as hell. At the end of the day however, I accept my faults as being human and I ask Jesus for forgiveness. I detect a hatred in your words for what I believe. In this country, it has become acceptable to hate on Christians and belittle us for our beliefs while calling Islam a religion of peace. Excuse me while I throw a big Bullshit flag on this play. This Christian will call a turd a turd. So I'll see your jerkit and raise you two...removed as per the Mods instructions :)

Respectfully,
me
