Is spyderco behind now?

The last 3 knives I purchased are Spyderco's and Have plans to purchase more in the future.

I think one can ad that Spyderco is a much smaller company compared to BM and Kershaw. With all due respect to the other companies but I love Spyderco for that! And I think no spyderco is not behind!

I think Spidey is absolutely behind in the lock dept. They need to just buck up and pay for a licensing agreement with Benchmade to get their Axis lock or, spend the R&D $$$$ to come up with something that's at least 90% as good. The former is probably way more feasible than the latter.

I could care less if they've got some of the best blade geometries and use the best steels if their locks are decades behind.

Once I flicked an Axis lock, my Spidies started collecting dust. I won't by another one until they've got a modern lock as strong, smooth & easy to use as the Axis.

Those are the sophomoric replies I'd expect because you can't refute the facts so you have to attack the credibility of the messenger.

Hmmm... Me thinks thou art "tummler the troll" with another login. Your stupidity and lack of understanding amaze me. Now..where is my troll hammer?

No, you are just too ignorant to realize that one old, worn out linerlock is not indicative of an entire manufacturer's line up, especially one as large and varied in the lock department as Spyderco's. I won't even bother going into how hilariously slanted and ignorant your opinion is because it's already plastered all over these forums if you took the time to look.

Axis locks have failed, too. All locks can fail. One video of a very old Spyderco failing one abusive test means nothing.

i dont think spyderco is falling behind any company they just prefer to do things there way. They dont focus on flashy knives instead they invest in manufacturing knives that are hardworking practical knives, and as far as hard to open i cant say that about my captain it is one of the smoothest opening knives i have had the pleasure of carrying

just my 2 cents

No, no, you're wrong! Didn't you SEE the evidence!!? To think all this time, I was duped into thinking Spyderco made a quality lock.

If you didnt like my post, you should have just deleted it.Plus what about freedom of speech.

this is a privately owned discussion forum. it is not run by any form of government.

freedom of speech does not apply here. reread the constitution or take a political science or civics course before you claim to know your rights again.

Yup, those Spyderco Lums are just such junk. I think they should all be sent to me so I can...ummm...intern them properly. :D

It's so embarrassing -- all the new guys know so much more than we do! :p

poor attitude. Why not. after 23000 posts you must have picked up something but that does not mean ur opinion is more valid than mine.

I am truly sorry to see this attitude from some members of this forum.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of Witt and inelegance.

Accusing others of trolling is also another common tactic that is easer than addressing issues.

Dear thedawg,

I've read enough of your dribble. It is quite evident that you are here to bash Spyderco in one way or another. You insult Sal Glesser and start a thread that is gauranteed to start a flame war. That is pretty dam low. I am giving you fair warning...either cut out the trolling or your stay here will be short-lived. You are allowed to have an opinion but when your thread becomes insulting and incites a flame war I draw the line. Knock it off.

Hope I dont get flamed for this , Also hope that spyderco fans wont get emotional here, but: Is spyderco too slow to adapt ?

I have been following knife companies lately. Spyderco is my favorite company but I am starting to think that it is loosing out to companies like benchmade, Kershaw, and even cold steel.

Will spyderco's currant way of doing things put it behind?
I understand that spyderco's method of developing knives is somewhat unconventional. They have a great forum that they run and consult fans and knife knuts more than other companies. But I dont see them coming up with new models often like other companies. Rather they bring many variants of the same models.

Also, there website is not the best compared to that of BM, cold steel and Kershaw.

Spyderco is not aggressive in marketing like the other companies I mentioned. This is a good thing for us knife people. Its more like a club.

What will the future bring for spyderco the gentle bug in the dog eat dog world of knife making?

All the best,

Um did ya not read that part about posting the pm's of mods?

Then put up something do discuss. Right now, all you've said is "I think Benchmade/Kershaw/everyone else is better the Spyderco".

Kinda hard to say anything about that other then "Nuh uh" and "Uh huh". :barf:
