Is the HI subforum going registered only?

I couldn't access the subforum without signing in to BFC. The HI subforum wasn't even listed in the "Forums" index until I signed in and it appeared after that. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this issue. Take care.

Well, apparently it is.
I had asked Spark about this when the recent incident happened.
Auntie and i discussed doing this and felt it would be prudent at the time to limit troublemaking by outsiders.
Neither of of needs the hassle and trouble that was caused and we were told directly that he would be watching and waiting for any slip ups.
When i first came to BFC, you had to register to see anything here.

Going to discuss this further with Auntie, but we may at least try it this way for awhile.

Ok. I thought I was doing something wrong:) My only concern would be that many people find HI by accident. I found HI that way after coming to BFC researching ESEE and it seems many folks sign up after having "lurked" for months. I can't really say how it might affect trouble makers, as there are plenty already registered on BFC:D, but I would hate for it to impact business. Thanks for the response. At least I know I'm not going crazy! Take care.

I found H.I. by accident also. I registered and you all have been stuck with me since. :D
It doesnt cost anything to register to this site to be able to visit us.
After talking at length with Auntie, we are going to try it this way for awhile.

Thanks for the info, Karda. I thought something was wrong too and was just about to post a question in the TECHNICAL ISSUE forum.
(Wish I had know sooner....missed out on that beautiful Ang Khola today!!!!) :p

Well, jdk1 kinda beat me to the punch in announcing it.
I really wish the members causing the trouble had sense enough just to walk away.

I'm trying to see the benefits to doing this, but I'm mainly finding drawbacks. The HI online store site has a link to the forum as a way for people to find "blems". When DOTD sales happen without the customary "email sent" posts, I imagine that a lot of these customers aren't registered users of the forum (and therefore can't post the "email sent" message).

It seems like sales could be hurt, at what benefit? Non-registered users can't make posts as it is. So I'm wondering what is the benefit of preventing them from reading threads at this forum?

(I just don't want the sales to be hurt. Lately there seem to be a number of DOTD items that are still unsold.)

Kumusta sir :) I was about to email you karda regarding that issue. But fortunately I manage to figure things out :)

The same link has always been there, even when the entire BFC was closed to guests. I found H.I. and registered.
Believe me we didnt want to do this really, but as i've stated before, we make changes when were forced to.

Maybe HI can add on its the website "to register first to BFS himalayan imports" to access HI?

Already spoke to Auntie about that, Thank you for the suggestion Nitro. Now we just have to get it implemented which may take a little bit.

I think Karda alluded to the benefit being that trouble-making entites can't "lurk" here while waiting for an opportunity to cause additional problems for HI outside the forums. Having thought about it more, I support this decision. Registering as a forum member here is a small requirement for having access to the DOTDs. I don't know why persons honestly interested in HI products would have an aversion to registering as a member (user): there's no financial obligation involved. It's important for Auntie and Karda to protect HI from disgruntled persons who don't know how to maturely address their problems or just enjoy being "haters." Being members here allows us to enjoy prices and products we'd never have access to on the HI website; and for those that wish to invest a little more time, we have the added benefit of community. Nitro77 had a good idea about updating the HI website to include a BFC member link.

Regarding the customary "email sent", I'm sure you'll find quite a few registered members who already don't post a message because they can't be bothered, wish to remain anonomous, or just enjoy "sharking" others. I, for one, wish posting a message were a requirement so Auntie wouldn't have to waste her time answering my email inquiries after an item has been sold because someone didn't post an "email sent" out of courtesy.

No dispute here. Though couldn't a troublemaker just register with a different email address?

That's true, Steve, but Karda and the other mods have been pretty quick to sniff them out and ban them again. I'm not sure if the mods have the ability to see if multiple registrations are linked to the same computer.

Sorry, but this is silliness. You're cutting off an introductory channel to people who want to know more about your products. Further, you're cutting off a significant introductory customer base, those who can't afford the shop prices but look for a DOTD or a blemish that they can clean up. Hiding from your customers is not a good idea. The rationale that "It was this way before" doesn't fly. Things changed from that for a reason, namely, it wasn't a good idea then, and isn't now. This is how HI presents itself; do you want to limit it to a "members only" community, or do you want to expand it?

Sorry you feel this way, nihilvox.
We werent given a choice when the forums were opened to the public. It didnt change because it wasnt a good idea, it changed because thats the way the Admin wanted to run the forum. We arent hiding from our customers, just a couple who've decided to act up and cause trouble that we don't need and interferes with business.
We like to encourage participation in our forum and community. It costs nothing to register to the site to browse the same as a guest.
If people really want to shark a DOTD deal, they can register and at least maybe then we can get to know each other. Maybe then those members whom do actively participate in this forum can have a chance without the stealth sharks, whom don't participate here at all.
