Is the Umnumzaan market finally saturated?

Did yours have a really stiff detent making it hard to deploy?

Any suggestions to get my new Umnumzann with S45VN blade to release the detent ball more easily so I can open it more than 3-4x before I'm too weak or sore to continue until the next day? The action feels smooth and slick like all of my other CRK, once the blade pops loose from the detent, and I'm told all Umnumzxaan are like this new.
On the ones I’ve bought new they were similar to yours, tough. But after a couple hundred openings the detent starts to wear and the release feels much better. Instead of using your thumb, open it half way using two fingers to lift the blade off the stop and flip it open to lock up. Then move the blade between open and close without actually locking into closing or opening, basically letting the detent ride on the blade. It will go much faster and be less painful.

I've give that a try. I'm wearing two bandaids right now from the process of using my 60 year old hands to break it in. So, I'll start using gloves and oxycodone for the remainder of the process...

I sold a bunch of my knives as I got out of “collecting.” One of them being…my S45VN Umnumzaan. I have almost regretted it every day. Great knife. Very capable. I have seen them pop up more and more lately, but am holding out for a Magnacut one.

‘Course I could get a S45VN version, order a MC blade and beat the piss out of the 45. I figured it would be 6 years til I got the MC blade from CRK. 🤣😆

I’ve got a tanto Zaan (3rd owner) in s35 that I picked up on the exchange around 6-7 mos ago for $450. It’s in great shape with normal scuffing on scales/clip - nothing that the spa couldn’t restore to ‘like new’. I also have a s45 that’s like new that I also picked up 2 min after it was posted (set your notifications!) I paid $500, but I would’ve bit at $600 and try to offer less. I still would’ve taken it no matter what. Point is: they’re out there if you’ll invest some time looking- unless you’re too lazy and just want someone to drop it in your lap. Even that doesn’t work for some🤬. If you’re indignant about a $500 knife being raised $50, maybe you should be shopping the Delica isle.

Make sure you are pushing the stud/blade stop forward, not outward; and of course that you are not riding the lock bar.
Yeah, I have the hand strength to do that 3-4 times and then I'm toast. I need to go back to my hand therapist and work on that (chronic carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome); and also really just sit down with gloves and work this out, but I've not had time the past several days.

Here’s what I’ve done in the past. Other good comments in the same thread too!

Mine broke in nicely with time. Use the meat on your thumb not the tip

Speaking of "Meat". This is in addition to wounds from last weekend.

Last night I'm cleaning my Hinderer XM-18 and wiping off schmutz from the cutting edge, and caught my index finger. I had to superglue the cut, but also switch from flippers to thumb stud knives like Umnumzann, as it's tender there even though the superglue job looks professional.

Then I go to break in the Zaan this AM, but the blade opened halfway due to weak effort on my 5th try, and I caught my thumb on the partially opened blade, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. What did I say about wearing gloves for the break in?

Now I need to switch again, from thumb studs to Spydiehole knives, to reverse flick them open with my middle finger until both fingers heal. The dried blood makes the two small thumb nicks look like one jagged cut., but I don't think I'll need superglue this time 🤣

Dang, brother, you’re taking ‘Zaan thumb to a new level, eh? 😉🤣

I think you should put away folders and carry a fixed blade for a week. Hahaha!
If I lose the ability to reverse flick my Spyderco that's next in line. If my small DavidMary necker EDC knife would get out of customs, I could switch over sooner than later. However, I still have my OTF autos that I can use left handed...

I think people are finally figuring out that the Sebenza and Inkosi are far superior to the Zaan.
Just traded my Sebenza 31 S35vn for an Umnumzaan in S45. Looking forward to trying it out, but if I don’t like it I will be going back to a Sebenza in a heartbeat.

Easily my favorite CRK
I wish you hadn't said that.
I thought I was finally over wanting a tanto zaan - got my new favorite big folder, and trying to wedge my small sebenzas into the favorite small folder spot (it's not working, of course; but at least I've gotten used to them being in my pocket) - I probably wouldn't like the zaan enough to carry, anyway; so what's the point, right?
Now I'm back to thinking maybe it is worth checking out.
