Is the Umnumzaan market finally saturated?

I wish you hadn't said that.
I thought I was finally over wanting a tanto zaan - got my new favorite big folder, and trying to wedge my small sebenzas into the favorite small folder spot (it's not working, of course; but at least I've gotten used to them being in my pocket) - I probably wouldn't like the zaan enough to carry, anyway; so what's the point, right?
Now I'm back to thinking maybe it is worth checking out.
Just do it, worst thing that happens is your out some time and shipping cost.

I'll see how I feel about it when I get the in-stock notifications. I don't want one badly enough to pay a markup; and since most of the ones hitting the exchange are at full retail (or higher), I'd rather support a dealer.

Tanto is nice - can't wait to get it broken in as soon as I've healed completely.

DocJekl DocJekl I have a knife like that - it was so hard to get the blade started, I almost returned it. (Even spoke with the dealer about doing so, and got the return approved.). Decided against it, and I'm glad I did. That knife owned my RFP for over two years...only reason it isn't still there is I'm making myself give a couple other knives some pocket time.
Hope the zaan works out as well for you as that one did for me.

Thanks! I’m definitely not close to being ready to give up on it, I just need a little bit more time.

I do tend to get stuck sometimes for a week or two at a time with one knife occupying my right front pocket, and I have to remind myself that I have other knives that I enjoy, carrying or fidgeting, and need to rotate. Same with my watches.

Why not adjust the pivot or polish the washers and re lube. My zaan came out of the box very good as it was but after I polished the washers the action still improved exponentially.

You could also put a bit of grease in the detent hole to help it along.

Going back to the OP, I think the opposite is now happeneing. I have been lurking here for a few weeks, anytime a Zaan is posted for sale it is snatched up pretty quickly. Aside from a magnacut asking $1,000+.

With the lead times now being years from CRK, just curious if folks are seeing them frequently offered at on line retailers?

There are people that are willing to pay retail or higher on the secondary market rather than wait a little while. Hopefully they'll still be there when I decide to sell my zaan tanto, lol

Yes, they're still getting to dealers, though with the current demand they aren't staying long. (Remember - most authorized dealers likely have standing orders; and many probably increased them as purchases increased.) I had put myself on the notification list of the dealer I thought most likely to get frequent restocks. I got two notifications and, by the time I looked, the knife was sold. I changed strategies and put myself on the list at a lesser known dealer. I got a notification within 6 weeks, and purchased the knife. Its action was abysmal DocJekl DocJekl , as were those of other recent CRK purchases; but a good cleaning set them all right.
Since, as mentioned above, my interest in the zaan had already waned & I had purchased a larger knife with which I'm happy, the zaan is back in its box...waiting for me to find the motivation to post it. (I dislike the whole sales process, so I have to be in the right mood - could take a while)

Good info thanks. I would have PMd you about your Zaan, but I just got my hands on one.
