Is this a scam site?...

100% agree sir.
FULL disclosure, and an informed customer make for good business.

Regulated items are sketchy at best, and should be avoided in most cases. That's when the "dark side" begins to show...

:cool:Psssst! Buddy! Come 'ere for a sec...

Yes, the fees are not outgoing but incoming to Australia (I am not saying that this fully totals the mark up you note) but that price is in $A currently the $A is around 79c US (but you never actually get that on an exchange) so the $241.50 (@79cUS) works out at @$193US. When that knife enters Australia the importer is liable for the shipping costs to get it here, import duties (that in my experience woks out at around 7% plus the Customs broker charges if you use one or a processing fee by Aus Post or the carrier if you don't - these are calculated on the price of the good INCLUDING the shipping as I recall but I may not be 100% on that) and needs to apply 10%GST. They are not fees added on for you buying from the US they are the costs to have the knife "on the shelves" here. They they have to carry those costs (ie paid up front - except the GST) until the knife sells...

And yes I generally think CEK is over priced and this is why I generally buy from the US, during the regulation period here I did buy a few they had in stock simply because they were not longer able to be imported. That said if you thought it so overpriced why buy it in the first place and then complain ? Would the answer simply have been not to buy it ?

Where did you find the same blade for sale for $50 ? Just to compare apples to apples.

Do understand we get it in the butt down here on the price of most all imported goods.

Here's the reason, I bought the knife thinking there was one left and that it was actually from nemoto knives which is why I'm calling it a scam because I don't think it was from him at all yet all the knives for sale was from him. I contacted them and they said it was, that's when I was starting to get suspicious & Google image searched the knife because there is so little information on it and I found one on an Asian website going for 9000 yen. And another on this one chinese website that sells very cheap stuff, the exact same one d2 steel same item number for $50. And guess what one right here i just found

(do not link to non-paying dealers who do not support Bladeforums and NEVER link to sites that make clones, copies and knockoffs- bhyde)

The site is definitely a scam, they claim the knife was from nemoto knives but there's just no way, his stuff isn't sold like this and definately not for such a cheap price.

Also the box the knife came in has the exact same item number: skbdn01d2 , the same one on the website I just linked.

Have you contacted CEK and raised your concerns ? Have you contacted the maker and asked if CEK is a retailer for them ? If it is not genuine then you absolutely deserve a refund but you need to approach them for it as well.

As is stated here, they are not highly thought of, but this would be the first I have heard about them selling clones.

I've contacted nemoto and got no reply, I've contacted CEK and got replies that someone only with broken English would say.

I Also bought the knife a few months ago I doubt I would get to return the knife...

Here's the replies I got from them,

1-
I would say these are all fakes

Your is actually being posted to you direct from Japan!

2-
These are designed by Nemoto and made by Sakura

Another lie. Nemoto doesn't do that and it was made in China...

You should definitely edit that link out of your post.
And your last response was quite painful to read, some punctuation might be nice.

CEK is a best example of drop shipping you will ever find.
Sure, they do have an extensive stock for Australian seller, but that is due to the fact that they are attending EVERY outdoors/hunting/camping/gun/knife show in Australia.
Vast majority of their 'in stock' items (hell! EVERYTHING that the website is saying '1 in stock') is not even in Australia, not to mention in their stock.

And if you received the knife in 3 days, then more than likely the actual distributor of the brand is probably few hours drive from your house. Orders in Australia very often take 2-3 months to be delivered, as he orders stuff when someone places order on his site.

And for crying out loud, if there is .** (letters) after the .com, you should know that you're not on US site...

Well bhyde just removed my post and said the site sells clones so I guess it's true you guys probably got scammed and me too

Cutlery Lover did a youtube video about some knife custom made in Aus that was reasonably priced and great quality. I can't remember the name but the logo was a kangaroo. You could probably find it by searching for cutlerylo....nm I'll do it for you.

The company is called OutbackWorx and the knife he featured was named, very originally, the Dingo.

Hardcore Hardware is no good? I had been curious about their Razorback, always good to find out a desired knife sucks. Cross it off the want list!

I heard hardcore hardware was good though, it's popular on sites that share images

Apparently they are actually Hardcore Nondescript Asian Knife importers. I don't got much love for companies that try to lie about where their products are made. Seems to be an Aussie thing. Whoever makes the outback bowie is guilty too.

Wow I guess I won't be buying from them either lol

.... that link he removed with the clone reference was to "DH Gate" correct ? The link to CRK was removed because they are not a supporting dealer for BF.

I have not bought from DH Gate so I have not been scammed.

Certainly CEKs practices do leave a bad taste however. None of the blades I have bought from them (maybe 3 ever) were dropped shipped, I bought them specifically because they were in stock here. I do tend to do pretty good research on what I am buying and where/who from. Thus far I have not been scammed on a knife (as in got a clone/copy etc - certainly overpaid but knowingly so that is not so much a scam but desire beating good sense....LOL).

Yes it was... DH is FULL of counterfeits, and clones. Most of you are already aware of that.

The posts regarding "1 in stock" is for drop shipping purposes. Many wholesalers/retailers will not drop ship multiples of one item to limit their own losses due to non established "shops" using another store as their "proxy buyer".

If a customer wants more than one of a particular item then the duties/taxes come back into play as well. Customs inspections are flagged right off the bat.

I know this from my own business.

CEK definitely not a scam, but absolutely a drop-shipper. Prices definitely expensive due to the reasons listed above. I've talked with the guy who runs GEC (work connection), and he's very helpful. With the sheer volume of products they have (impressive for an Australian company), I don't doubt that some crap gets through.

It's often a sad, conflicted situation for me. I want to support local businesses and keep the $ in Australia, but when I can buy items 30%+ cheaper from the US or Europe, that often wins my purchase.

My uncle lived in Australia, and he often commented on the cost of living in Melbourne vs other cites he had lived in.
I can empathize with the issue of local vs global spending.

It still comes down to researching your purchase.
I've often been the fool on impulsive purchases, and it still happens... Ohhhh. just saw a squirrel.

....tough isn't it !!! 2012-15 I grabbed a couple of blades there just so as I didn't have to navigate Customs (they were confirmed as in stock locally) but other than that the $s are too much for my taste - and I don't say that they are totally out of line knowing the costs associated with putting an item on the shelf here. Most all of my purchases now are either private or direct from Busse. It will be a bitch if they drop the tax/duty free threshold from $1K though.... :(
