Is this an good all rounder

I havent ever used let alone handled one of those so Im not sure. The specs/profile look fine enough. Thats a lot of money however.

i know 250 USD thats about 300 AUD + shipping, it's not the most i have spent on an blade though :)

At about $250.00 that would be 5 Becker BK-7's. I know they were testing the knife for "abuse to failure" but if you find yourself pounding your knife into a cinderblock with a hammer...um...pound the block directly with the hammer. Mac

the only possible drawback i can see is that the handle wouldn't make a very good "field hammer". however if you've got the money and thats the knife you want, go for it

Just out of curoisity why that particular knife? From the looks of it the cold steel SRK is very similar for a fraction of the price. There are several knives with a similar design that have proven to be reliable for less than $250 usd. Thats just my $0.02

some bastard on an aussie site got my interest in this knife just thought i would do some research and see if you guys had any experence with it thats all

I know Joe at JT knives personaly and I don't think he would put that on his site if they were not worth it. Just my .02

I'd get one. I have the magazine that article on the web came from and, as you can read, it is highly thought of, it can take the abuse.

What exactly are you going to use it for if you don't mind me asking?

As far as the price........sadly I remember when I thought that 250.00 was a bit much for a knife. Now I have alot of knives that I paid more than 250.00 for:o

I hope you get one and can give us a review of how it holds up in the land of OZ:thumbup:

Cerberus

Sounds good to me. Plus those Israelis are known to make some pretty nasty stuff ex. uzi's and desert eagles.

i can definitely remember the days when i thought 250 was steap, sadly those days are gone for good. i have entered the world of Busse Combat knives. i would definitely be interested in hearing what you thought of the Dustar if you do end up buying one

It seems to be a very good knife. There was an article about that knife in Tactical Knives. Only a few months ago.

As a side note I sent my buddy Joe a email to see what he thought. If he has one in his shop I'll go check it out and let you know what I think.

Wow he got back to me fast...here was his reply.

"I do have the Dustars in stock. I really like them, the blade is D2 and reminds me of a Randall 14 blade. The Dustar is a tough, no nonsense survival knife. The sheath is really nice too. Stop in some time and I'll show one to you."
Keep in touch.

Very interesting review. Given the usual standards of knife reviews (All the children are above average.), the review communicates that this knife, as sold, doesn't cut things very well. But a "professional" can improve things in that regard (One would have hoped the knife would be professionally sharpened before sale.) So I guess it depends on what you mean by "all rounder" and whether you wish to buy a knife to have it professionally sharpened.

(And, unlike this knife, my US-made Marbles came sharp enough to shave hair off my arm.)

Something I'm not keen on are the finger grooves in the handle. Many like them, but I find that it makes it difficult to use the knife in other than a chopping, thrusting type of hold.

I also agree that for the money, the blade should come with a professionally sharpened edge. A dull blade is an accident waiting to happen.

But...............if you like that knife and have the money, go for it.
