Is this benchmade fake

I never actually read their blurb about the knife, I just looked at the pictures. It does my heart good to see they have such a fine understanding and usage of english.

I got a custom Yellowhorse Buck from a guy in Australia off Ebay last month. 4 inch bladed sheath knife with turquoise and such in the handle, in a custom wooden display box. Reasonably heavy. Shipping cost me $35aus.

Problem is: that's a really GOOD copy of a BM 635. If you ignored where it came from and the rest of it, it's a nice looking knife right down to the fine details.

What I worry about is the buyer of this knife actually using it, and whether it's going to cause bodily harm by failing or closing on them, or something...

...AAAH but there's money to be made, let's just copy the thing and worry about the rest later! :(

jkarp, good point, I was given a cheapie once and I rarely use it and I haven't let anyone else touch it at all because it has one very major flaw. I can hold the handle (keeping my fingers away from where the blade will be), push on the back of the blade and the liner will instantly slide over a couple millimeters, if I was to push any harder it would come straight off the edge and you'd have a mini guillotine.

Doesn't have to be a fake either, I achieved the same result with a smith and wesson 24/7 once, it took a small bit more effort. I wouldn't buy or sell a Chinese folding knife.

I agree with most of the above (last) statement, with the only exception being the Byrd line.I never got a bad Byrd. Some of the Benchmade "redbox" series also comes from China.I've heard they're pretty well made, but don't own any.
For the most part, when buying knives "Made in China" is an instant red flag for me also.

I'd also like to add for people that don't know.A lot of people lump China,Tiawan & Japan together & assume they're all the same. This is not true at all. Here's what I came up from my own experiences...

:thumbdn:China= 85%-90% Crap
Tiawan=Not bad at all,for the most part(like the Boker "Magnum" series)
:thumbup:Japan=Excellent.Just as good (sometimes better) as US or German made.

I am going to send Benchmade an e-mail about this. I would like to see them fry the guy who copied the original. It is ok for your knife to look simialar or have similar features as another knife, but to use the same logo and the exact same design is just dishonest.

I feel I did my part.I reported it to ebay as clear copyright infringement. While they spelled it "Beachmade",it doesn't matter. The knife still has BM's trademark butterfly logo.

I F#%ckin' HATE scammers!!

...By the way what is shilling?

A "shill" is a seller's mate. Without disclosing that relationship, the shill pretends to admire the merchandise -- may even place a bid -- in order to dishonestly encourage others' interest ("shilling") and drive up the bidding. "Has anyone seen this great knife on eBay? Hope I don't get outbid."

Sorta' the opposite of what you did.

Here in the Philippines the quality of the fakes is getting scarier. Passed by a local surplus store the other day and was amazed that he was stocking COLD STEEL, a few CRKT's and SMITH & WESSON knives...since my interest in these brands have gone I didn't do a double take. Then I saw a Strider folder! Asked how much it was and price quoted was something like $20...

Thats when I started to look closely at the other knives. They were all fakes. The new popular one and which looks 95% like the real deal is the Steve Ryan Model...next one is a Recon 1 folder.
