Is this hobby addictive or is it me?

My wife never understood my addiction so I divorced her 16 years ago and have never been happier! I buy anything I like, sell some here and there, then buy some more. One has to have priorities, and knives certainly come before her. 35 years of accumulating and still going strong.

I went clothes shopping yesterday and came back with a jacket...and a sage 2...and a buck vantage..my girlfriend was so disappointed hahaha

Im hooked, currently on the expensive stuff too! $400+ They should do an intervention show about being hooked on this.lol

I sure am glad there's more of you out there...i was beginning to worry bout myself...i just snagged a perrin neck bowie, even though i already have 10 other similarly sized neckers and fixed blades.....i dont even live in the woods....

I have lots of hobbies. I have never had one where I could buy 5 of something and then just say, hmm I will buy 5 more. I don't even use these things. It is just an odd hobby.

In the last 7 or so days, I have bought 2 lone wolf t2 red/black micarta nib off of ebay (though I really want FRN handles I can't find them), a mini grip (one of my nephews took my other, from AG Russell), two tiny AG Russell titanium knives, an AG Russell gentlemens pocket tool, a leatherman 306x (again AG Russell, this thing is cool), a CRKT get a way thing (AG Russell), leatherman s4 (online),and a benchmade mini 585 (bladeforums, getting mailed today). I might have left something out.

I am almost 100% sure I am going to get a bm sibert (in fact I lost on a bid on ebay), a kulgera, some rat folders, and possibly either a buck vantage or a kershaw blur next week.

I don't even use these things.

Weirdest hobby I have ever picked up.

Yep, one hell of an addiction. Hi, my name is William and I'm a knife addict.

What do you mean, " you don't even use these things " They're beautiful, workable, knives.:D:D

I tried an intervention with a professional therapist. Converted him.

Hilarious!

And seeing that you live in Highlands Ranch, you can probably spend LOTS of money on knives....

Think of the money you could save if you drop the shrink. 4 hours of therapy equals one mighty nice folder!

Like any addiction, there is a 12 step program for help.

Step 1: Box up all your knives and send them to me.

Step 2: Direct deposit your paycheck into MY bank account.

Step 3-12: Begin drinking heavily and forget you did Steps 1 and 2.

Any questions?

My name's Tom and I'm a knife addict. They say that's the first step to recovery, although I really have no desire to"recover".

We've probably all heard that pot is a "gateway" drug. So let's here it...what was your "gateway" knife? Mine was a Bucklite back in high school. twenty-some years (and thousands of knives) later and it's still hanging on my hunting belt and goes through several deer every year.

I used to be in the same place - acquiring knives much faster than I could enjoy them (or replenish my bank account). Now after almost 20 years of collecting, things have stabilized a bit. It now comes in waves, where I'll go on a "knifing binge," and then cool off for a while. Unfortunately, I'm also buying much more expensive knives, so the overall cost hasn't changed. :( :D

I dont understand why people on this site post so many things like this...its just like any other fetish/obsessive hoarding/collecting habit.

Go look at candle power forums, its the same thing with flashlights, watches, pens.

People who buys knives all the time are just hoarders, pure and simple. It's a form of anxiety...like biting your nails or picking your face.

I like Nordic knives, mostly Finnish puukko, but also have a few nice Norwegian and Swedish knives. I prefer vintage pieces, but have a couple modern ones. The barrel knives are my wife's collection. Over the years I've collected almost everything with an edge; Japanese swords, 19th bowie knives, bronze age pieces, English (IXL mostly) folders, some odd ball pieces like damascus bladed kards, yatagans, etc. I like all kinds of fine cutlery.

Dang, I've been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.:D I hoard knives, I do like my pens (parkers) I have enough flash lights to light a stadium, and own three watches 4 if you count my pocket watch and I bite my nails..what next ?:D

Maybe for those who have some mild to moderate psychosis. Otherwise I see absolutely no comparison to hoarding. Hoarders keep everything...just for for the sake of keeping it or because they can't bring themselves to throw it away. Most hoarded items have little to no value. There's a big difference between an organized, thought-out collection and an accumulation of 700+ empty Bic Mac cartons. I seriously doubt anxiety has anything to do with for 99% of knife collectors.

You remember Pooky from the movie New Jack City? It's like that. Enjoy.

Yesterday I got done writing a 4 page paper for one of the questions for my Drugs and Crime final...

I am addicted to knives but live with my parents and they constantly complain even if I do "one" a month.

Real funny reading all of the responses.

I have the addiction as well. I suppose it's better than my old habits of smoking (cigarettes) and drinking.

And that reasoning makes me an enabler of my own addiction, huh?
