If it isn't a Chinese brand knife and is on AliExpress or DHGate, then it is not real. They are kind of like the eBay of China, but are a lot more forgiving for counterfeit knives. Nothing from an American company on there is legit.

Okay thanks.... I thought that was too good a deal to be true.....It seems that there is a lot of forging and copying of knives from good hard working companies like Benchmade and Microtech out there..
Ya would think that kinda stuff would be illegal.

It is illegal if done in the US, but China has its own set of intellectual property and patent laws. The stealing of designs is theft, and the use of branding is theft, but the use of the axis lock isn't strictly theft because the patent isn't in China. It's scummy, but not outright illegal.

Are the fakes really that much cheaper made than the real ones?
I am just wondering if the fakes will perform as good as the real ones.

No they aren't as good and the steel is never the same as the real deal. After all they're cheap fakes. Why would anyone expect honesty from the people copying them?

If you watch Youtube videos... the fakes dont seem bad in quality of construction. The action and lock up seems good from videos. Some fakes seem solidly built. However, there is no way to tell if the steel is good.

i would not buy them because it is unethical.

You won't get anything like the performance out of the steel that you would with the legit ones. Other features like screws and pivots won't be up to the same standards, so anything other than letter opening will start to cause damage. Also, I find it highly likely that the guys reviewing those knives are either dishonest, or mis-informed, and so don't provide you with accurate information.

The Chinese companies that use their own designs and have good quality are not as inexpensive as the counterfeits. They are most definitely NOT the same thing for way less money!
If you buy clones and counterfeits, you are actually getting ripped off and harming the legitimate companies as well!

Because shills always say what they say to defend there purchase.

They are also good at imitating the look of high-strength bolts and fasteners, such as used in aircraft and other critical applications. Many have found their way into the supply chain. Scary.

Go to a shop that displays $15 knives next to drug paraphernalia. Play with a few folders. This is the quality of the clones you're looking at. If you find any of them "solidly built", just buy those.

Chinese almost had me fooled...
America sends all there jobs over seas to the Chinese and look at what they do in return.
It really is a shame..
All they do is take advantage of Americans.
I brought a few nice knives from Kershaw and Zero Tolerance and right on the box it says
"PROUDLY OVERBUILT IN THE USA"
What a great feeling to know something is still built in America.
We need to take back America.

I guess the best way is to buy directly from the company....OMG, what if they try to clone the company?
Now days ya never know what your getting weather it be man or woman or a knife from china.lol.
What is America coming to.

That is an excellent point. I have seen over and over here folks arguing against buying clones becuase they are "low quality."

Who cares? Just like you said.

If someone made an exact replica of a Sebenza down to materials and tolerances and sold it for $99, I still wouldn't buy it because it's a ripoff.

But it just blows my mind when people say that kinda stuff..."If you buy a clone the lock might fail." Missing the point entirely.

I still can't understand why US makers don't serialize all their knives and have a registration system. It would end the clone problem right quick.

I would imagine the cost to tool up and give each and every one its own serial number is very expensive. The success of implementing such a change also depends on the people buying the knives know enough and care enough to check the serial numbers and see that they are real. I would imagine that only we knuts would even realize the significance of the serial numbers. Remember, the vast majority of the public doesn't even realize there is a Chinese counterfeiting problem outside of Luis Vuiton handbags and Ray Ban or Oakley sunglasses. It would likely make very little difference, as the vast majority of people buying the fakes either don't know or don't care.

And to bring us back to the OP's question of "Is this knife real or fake?"...
Yes, the knife is real. But it's a fake Benchmade.
