Where do you buy eggs?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Chinese_milk_scandal

The point is, some people lie for money.

Walmart or local Shop n Save, why? That's the going rate for over a year now in NE Ohio. What does doctored milk and formula have to do with manufactured eggs and rice? You can't make fake eggs and fake rice cheaper than the raw products, so how are would anyone make money faking eggs and rice?

Example - Dayton Walmart X-Large eggs $0.44, or maybe these are so cheap because they are fake Chinese eggs?

You totally can. Food is expensive, and getting more expensive, exacerbated by shrinking arable land and exploding raw materials costs. Lots of quasi-edible chemicals are cheaper to source, and the labor to process them into imitation food is tiny compared to the labor of a real agricultural cycle. China is facing an epidemic of counterfeit food, sold and consumed within its own borders. Not all of it is synthetic, either. There's a relentless quest to find the cheapest protein sources to manufacture "soy sauce", and that includes processing human hair. The US is slowly slipping in the same direction: look up "fake blueberries".

"some" food is expensive, eggs and rice are not among expensive foods.
https://www.numbeo.com/food-prices/country_result.jsp?country=China
Rice (white), (1 lb) 2.92 ¥ = $0.45 US dollar
Eggs (regular) (12) 10.93 ¥ = $1.69 US dollar

Expensive is relative. Somewhere that $0.14 cent egg is a big part of someone's daily wage. Most people in the world buy the lowest priced version of what they need, therefore the market supports selling counterfeit food of all kinds.

I hung out with an expat dude in his early 20s one night in Shanghai. He was a Minnesota boy from the heart of dairy country. Said he had to stop drinking milk in China because they pushed such crazy amounts of hormones into the cows that he started growing hair in places he shouldn’t...

Its quite simple. People tampering with products have access to adulterants at a lower price than the actual product they are adding the substance too.

No need to take the calculator to the grocery store. People do this for the same reason any other criminal commits a crime. It's a fast and easy route to money. Armed Robbery, embezzlement, making counterfeit goods, watering down beer, or adulteration of baby formula it's the same mindset.

Yeah, I can see someone selling whitefish as some exotic fish for ultra high dollars, but not eggs and rice. The Chinese are cloning fish now too.

Adulterating food (watering down or bulking up with additives) is much different than making entirely fake food products from chemicals and polymers.

I’m in NE Ohio, too, but I’ve actually been to China. You understand that the reason half our stuff made in China is that labor is pennies on the dollar right? Now rethink that math.

I saw a lot of crazy depressing things and behavior in China. Also met a lot of great people too. The clone market doesn’t surprise me at all, cause that’s the least of their worries

It would cost more to fake eggs and rice that the real thing, both are so dirt cheap that using polymer, resins, chemicals and time to fabricate would far outprice the real thing. Jumbo eggs are $0.54 in the US right now for a dozen, I'm sure China has a few chickens and rice fields.

Wow! That is a great price on eggs! Not sure where you are going but from what I can tell the average price hovers around the $2.40 amount. https://www.google.com/search?q=price+of+eggs+in+ohio&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Hmm.... Seems your link says $1.90 which is way more than what you are quoting.

The eggs in your link cost $1.43, but that's not the point. Wait, what was the point again? Something about how if something can be counterfeited for less than the cost of the real item, someone will do that.

That's odd. I wonder if the same link shows different prices, depending on what location you're at?

I forget, what was the topic? Something about fake knives?

It sure does. If you go to extreme NE Ohio they are $1.48 which does not equal $.54. Not sure this guy knows what he is talking about and it isn't even on topic anyway.

So back on topic. The counterfeit knife makers are all about making money. If they could not make money on them then they would not make them.

Did you know that your computer will default to your local area
Dayton’s not NE Ohio, brah.
We don’t stand for those kinds of insults up here, lol.
(Also, if you’re buying eggs from Walmart at 44 cents a dozen those are def made in a chemical factory in China)
