Is this Sanrenmu knife a copy of some other knife?

I love my 738, I think it is a very nice gentlemen folder offered for a great price considering that it's really preceisely put together.
I do have several expensive knives, including the famous sebenza, yet I can't say that my SRMs are "POS". Far from it, they are more than acceptable and make for very good gifts for newbies.
I do have one issue with the 738, and it's the same issue I have with most of the SRM 7xx knives I handled so far: the handle is a bit too small.

I love how people call them heavy, have you handled some of the high end folders floating around? they're bricks...SRM are quite light considering, but hey people have to whine, there should be a SRM whine and cheese thread.

The biggest problem that Ihave with SRM knives is that they're all so little. Why don't they make knife that will fit a man's hand and put some steel in front of him. They're all too small for me. I do like my two little 710's that are still opening my mail.

Yep. I'd have bought one (and be able to have an opinion on them) if they'd make one with a blade larger than 2 1/2 inches.

I have big hands too, but look at tradition folders...they dont fill your whole hand up, they dont need to. I usually add a hangmans noose lanyard for an additional grip.

I'm guessing you're referring to me as the person who bought 7 SRMs. Trust me, I'm no SRM fanboy, I bought them to check them out because of all of the hype I was hearing about them, and again, to use as beaters or loaners. I'm very particular about lending my good/higher priced knives out and get tired of telling people they can't borrow my knife for whatever reason they need one. I value and take good care of my more expensive knives. Regarding the buying of 1 Spyderco for the cost of 2 SRMs, I've got about 18 Spyderco knives which covers most of the models I like and want to own. In total I own about 75 to 80 knives, fixed and folders. How many knives does a person really need? I buy because I like to collect them and use some. Whether they're actual collector's items, rarities, etc is usually irrelevant to me. Something about them appeals to me so I buy it if I can afford it. SRMs and the like, being at the lower end of the cost spectrum doesn't make them any less appealing. Again, all of the SRMs, Bees, Navy I've bought lock up tight, with built quality on par with or better than some much more expensive knives I own or have handled. I also don't like carrying large or very expensive folders so that rules out a lot of brands. It's very hard for me to justify spending $250+ on a single folder. Call me cheap, call me whatever; at the end of the day they don't cut any better than something costing $10 and the savings can go towards buying other items I want. I'd buy an SRM before I spent a cent on a SOG. Hell, I already have, since I've never owned a SOG. I've looked and handled several but never liked any enough to part with my hard earned cash. Take the Flash II for example. I like the design but the blade play, cheap feeling locking mechanism, etc is blown away by my SRMs at a fraction of the cost. And I'm sorry, I'm not hating on my brothers in the US cuz I love you guys, but US QC is a lot of the time no longer all that it's cracked up to be. In some cases yes, but in many others no. Look at the auto industry as a perfect example. The Big Three were putting out shoddy product for so long that the rest of the world caught up, blew past and are kicking their ass. It's only within the last few years that I've seen them make a comeback and to be honest, for the first time in many years I would actually really consider buying a new American car. Regarding your issues about SRM's Quality Control, again I'll paraphrase Sal (I believe it was him but forgive me if I'm wrong) who said that SRM's QC is amongst some of the most stringent in the business and in some cases far better than some US manufactures. I will be the first to agree that not all Chinese manufactures are equal. I've seen more than my fair share of crap come from China and other Asian countries but I think it's unfair to paint them all with the same brush. I'm sure the vast majority of your worldly possessions were either manufactured in Asia, or contain parts from Asia. Anyhow, not trying to pick a fight or anything, just stating my opinion. The bashing of SRM or any other knife brand without actually trying them out at least is just ignorant to me.
There's no doubt that things made in China are prevalent here in America... I don't think that there's as much anti-China sentiment in these posts as you Sanrenmu fans are making it out to be. The difference between Sanrenmu and companies like Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, etc. is quality control, testing, and warranties that you can trust. Maybe Sanrenmu is making good knives, maybe they aren't. But I'll let you in on a little secret about people using them to manufacture - vigilant quality control. Every knife that these companies export to China, Taiwan, etc. all come with the same guarantee - we make sure that each stands up to our US knives.

And as far as that Benchmade comment... yeah I'm sure that people go to Benchmade for all their prestigious 8Cr, liner locks... :jerkit:

In my previous post I noted that for two Sanrenmus you could easily get a Spyderco... if you don't want to do that. So be it. I'll also add that I do have knock off knives. I use them for all the crap that I'd never use my real knives for. I think someone mentioned grout work above... that's exactly the use for these knives. But to own 7 of these? Jesus... you could get a freaking Zero Tolerance off the second hand market for that much money. Are you kidding me?

Sorry, don't know what's wrong with my pc and why it's losing all of my formatting and clumping my previous post into one big paragraph...Must be made in China or something...;-)

I have a few SRM knives and they have been pretty good considering the very miniscule amount they cost me. They are what they are. Some are copies and some are not.

Enough of my money already stays in the US thanks to the IRS so I seriously doubt a $10 Chinese knife or two is going to counter those thousands taken from me.

BTW I have an Enlan EL-01 on the way from Hong Kong at this very moment. It should be a beast.

You can rag on the USA, quote Sal, make fun of the cars, coffee - whatever. Not worth getting a chicklet to tell you what I'd like to post....:barf:

Bee EL 01 is a beast. Wait until you thin out the secondary bevel to 30 inclusive or less, it's a devil :D
The steel is harder than Sanrenmu's I have, it took longer to thin it down.

It's a flipper, needed cleaning up from factory grease to be smooth enough to open with finger flip without wrist assistance. I did it by re-oiling & washing repeatedly with hot water & soap. Now it flips great, even at vertical position (blade ends up pointing upwards)

To those who complain about handle size needs to check the 9xx series or newer Athletic series (which mostly are Bee's, I think they outsource it to Enlan)

I just bought a 738 based on the OP's picture. It looks like a good church knife.

I already have a 710. It's actually a nice little knife, I have no issues with it. I ground the little hump off of the front of the blade so it looks even more like "that knife which shall not be named". :D

If you go through life looking for reasons to be angry insulted or offended you are going to be successful beyond your wildest dreams.

In regards to the original topic, the knife reminds me of some of the Rockstead models, but I don't think it's particularly a copy of anything.

oops... too late. ;)

Seriously, knife nuts have to be some of the thinnest skinned people on the planet, when $10 Chinese knives causes so much petty bitterness. Or even calling them POS knives. I have no problem calling out a POS when I see one. But clearly, as anyone who's handled them, SRM knives do not fall anywhere near that category. To make such a claim is the equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "La la la...", a denial of reality that's just unhinged.

Damn... you guys were SO right... Sanrenmu's are amazing... I just found this test that shows how strong their liner locks are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC3aMX-27QA

It's supposed to snap shut on your fingers right?

Oh, and then I found this video of a water bottle cut test with the 710:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5XXCxaoHXI

Your knife is supposed to bounce off the plastic bottle right?

I mean... why the hell would I want a knife that costs THIRTY WHOLE DOLLARS that cut through a water bottle with no effort like it was butter:

Where's the fun in that? 7 worthless Sanrenmus for me please! I have a lot of toast that needs buttering.
