It’s All Come Down To This

I have tried all kinds of knives over the years but soon find myself right back with the 1st knife that I bought 47-48 years ago. carried almost every day and still do. Western 854. Every other knife I've tried has come up short in some way or another.

Before joining BladeForums I typically only bought and carried one knife at a time. I'd decide it's time for a new Kershaw or Case knife after carrying a knife anywhere from 3 - 7 years (roughly). I joined BF couldn't believe people were spending so much money on pocket knives and then started spending money on pocket knives.

I agree... It's a bit like going to a bar, and asking if anybody wants to go on the wagon...

I’m down to only three now. Eklipse for a heavier duty knife, Herman Sting for EDC and Shirogorov F3 NL for a fun show knife.

I also love the categories we make up for knives to justify buying them:

Hard Use Knife - something high end that will withstand a beating.
Beater Knife - something cheap to beat on because we don't want to use the high end stuff on.

One of my grandfather's carried a Sodbuster Jr. (mechanic) and the other carried a Folding Hunter (farmer). They didn't have knife categories. LOL

There's nothing wrong with buying and owning multiple knives. I just think the justifications are funny. Why'd I buy this? Because I wanted it.

Rather than down sizing to only one knife, maybe you can get more active and broaden your lifestyle to have more need of more knives and tools. If you’re happy just living in a comfort zone someday you won’t have any challenge or need of tools and live on easy opening snacks , TV dinners and computer games. Live a little! Get out and explore, adventure, challenge yourself!

Who doesn't need an extra knife or three; in order to remove all of those Child-Proof caps?

I consider it a win for rationality if I'm just carrying one knife that day. One knife, as in I only own one? Heh, nah. I would have to have made a very long series of drastically poor financial decisions to ever arrive at a point where I only owned one knife.

Rifles and shotguns? Yes...
Pistols? I've packed an awful lot of them into a collection, and a lot of them don't use up any more space than a decent knife.
Flamethrowers? One to a customer!
