It followed me home (Part 2)

I rehung it shortly after I got back yesterday since I did plan on putting this in my line up for use. It weighed 3lb 3oz once I removed the haft. With the new haft it is 35 1/4"

Picked up this Plumb today. No permabond , has a screw wedge too. Stamped W P A on the off side. I hope it means "Works Progress administration" .

That Plumb broad hatchet is in fine shape. The little nick in the bit will file out easily. The crack in the handle might become an issue or it might last for years.

MERCULA; Nice shape for a Plumb tool that was made between 1922 and 1943. If you can get the screw wedge out it should be relatively simple to get the handle off and open up the crack to accept some weather proof glue such as Titebond. That tool could easily outlive you!

some vintage hafts

NOS never hung, Smart foundry Empire. Haven't done much research yet but the guy that owned the axe has been dead 50 years

I got these yesterday for $40! E&S head, adze head, Plumb and West German hatchets, Flint edge Connie and Woodings-Verona boy's axe.

Today I was lucky enough to get 6 awesome handles. They are good because they are all straight and slim and uncommon sizes. Also I was able to hand select. The two 19" handles are birch I think, the others (24", 28", 32") are ash. I'm told that they are made buy a guy in Nova Scotia. I paid $56 for all 6. The almost unused Council boy's axe was $8 and the E&S Jersey was $5.

You find some pretty amazing stuff on the regular. The handles look like (at least the material and the pattern) the ones I get locally. 19", 24", 28", 30", and 32".

And if you are looking to off load that E&S let me know. ;)

I'm willing. Yuo should know that the top eye has some deformation. It is not smashed to hell or cracked, but needs some heat and to be massaged back into symetrical shape. It is worth saving and will be great if you have the ability. I can post pics or email them. I would price it accordingly.

I've found that the truper square handles are good for something, they make great blanks. i have one on a TTKP jersey. i need some sandpaper but im actually impressed with how it turned out. if you're looking to get into handle making i suggest carving these before you invest in a slab of hickory.

Good stuff here, and I'm always happy to find NOS handles. I paid $120 for everything. There is a Main wedge double in there as well as a S&N 1-3/4lb Hudson Bay.
