This N.O.S. came home with me this morning.

This came from what remains from the workshop of the founders family successor of The G.Fox Department Store here in CT.
I was in the original home and workshop this morning.
Massive, beautiful, a dream space for sure and all created back in the early 1930's.

Some of the other items I wanted were not available.

Can someone measure the length or width of a cruiser axe head. Like so (----) not ( l ).

those two bottom heads look kinda like "proto-michigans" IIRC, michigans were developed in the (18)70's-80's to log out michigan. not exactly like modern ones but recognizable

Thanks for the help y'all. I guess I shall have to continue my search for a hand forged cruiser. I've been trying to build a set. So far I've got a boys axe, a full size single bit, and a full size double. I still need the cruiser and hatchet.

That's a great old advert. That #196 example appears dbl sided.

Put it aside and go buy a new Norton to satisfy your craving to use it. Norton still makes this stone in a two-sided version.

Ya, I think i just may do that...maybe I will find a used one, similar in style and age.

N.O.S. .... so cool to own, but always the dilemma ... caretaker of history vs.
use it as it was meant to be used. Too much Catholic guilt in me.... I usually pass.
(but, very cool to know someone that appreciates it owns it ! ).

Charles

Thank you Drum4fun.
I tucked it away for now and will grab a new stone, dbl sided fine and coarse.:cool:
