It followed me home (Part 2)

One of my buddies found out I’ve started rehanging axes so he brought these to me. He currently has a saw mill and his family has been logging in East TN and Western North Carolina for generations. He gave me these and said there was a lot more laying around where they came from, he just grabbed what was close. Anyone want to tell me what I have and if they have much life left in them.

Holy crap a falls (sorry, autocorrect for those who saw this earlier) city kp, now that's pretty old. That handmade is pretty good looking too.

Second to last photo. The one with

M

I’m pretty sure that M stands for Mexico.
You can just send that one to me :D

A few rescues from the past week or so...

Craftsman heavy has lugs. That's a cedar. Probably junk and a pain to haft. Send it to me to save yourself from misery.:D Probably a plumb actually. Really nice haul.

You're right, good catch.
It's been a while since I've seen one.
The Craftsman heavy hatchet is also smaller, more of a Carpenters hatchet size.

ooh nice hudson, what's that one by the brush hook, cedar or hudson? also what's up with that little panel(?) saw under the really worn out CC saw on the left side?

This is all I know so far and that the blade has a bit of a bend about half way down...not bad.

Cedar, National, Hudson maybe?

Craftsman heavy if I'm not mistaken.

Stanley head and very cool, great weight

The WAL Board handle has a faded Long Beach CA stamp on it.

Great History in this one...

Looks like every drawing of a cedar shown in any axe head chart I've ever seen.

Nailed it! Sorry, anyhow, to justify this post I was given 3 50-75 foot rolls of fire hose by my dad 'cause they each have a leak and are unusable.
edit: 4, not 3

While this axe isn't exactly new to me, I recently discovered it in a building I own at a remote location. Last I had seen it, my knowledge of and passion for old axes hadn't yet blossomed. So it was a nice surprise when I took it down off of it's perch on the garage wall and discovered what I had owned all these years. And then it followed me home... It measures 35 3/4 inches long, 7 inches from bit to pole and 5 5/8 inches from heel to toe. The head must weigh just under 5 lbs as close as I can figure. The condition is pretty good for it's age: a little mushrooming and a few chips, but plenty of life left in the edge. I'm hoping I can pull the wedge and salvage the handle. It feels great in the hand and has a beautiful grain pattern. As long as I own it, it won't get much use as I don't have the shoulders to swing a beast like this any more. I hope to get it cleaned up and rehung in the not too distant future. It's the sort of "want-to-do" project that I occasionally manage to sneak into the "have-to-do" list. I'll post pics when I get it done. T-A

More photos to come.
