It followed me home (Part 2)

I also heard they were used in mines (especially in the west) where the humidity would have rotted a wooden handle. Seeing as they're all over in the Mojave desert it certainly sounds plausible as there aren't many frozen lakes out there.

The teeth seem smaller than I would expect on an ice saw.

Ice harvesting was bigger business in the NE than in the NW. Have you seen other saws like this back there?
I'm not willing say for certain, but that's what similar saw have been called. Ones that I've seen have the metal handle and somewhat substantial triangular teeth.

I think there may have been several classes of these metal handled saws. Those with very large teeth for sawing ice and those with smaller teeth for cutting timbers or beams. This one appears to be one of the latter. Hopefully it will still be there when I head back in a couple weeks.

The ice saws around here have much, much bigger teeth.

On another note, this found me at home today:

Nah:

The haft will come out and if that split doesn't run down the tongue too far it should fit one of the Kelly Perfect Jerseys I have. It's octagonalized, knob end, beautiful, but it's kinda swimming in this eye.

The edge is still Keen indeed, someone took care of this one. It's going to take like two passes on a strop to shave. I am already in love with it, Im going to make a real nice facsimile handle (or sightly different) but will have a knob end like that. This is getting the whole nine yards as far as handle and sheath.

Anybody have an idea on age based on perhaps the stamp? Wicked cool.

I don't know, but wow that KK Rockaway is in beautiful shape. And the edge too, I'm not sure you'd even find such an edge on a NOS axe.

This one sure deserves the whole 9 yards, and I can't wait to see it finished.

All new acquisitions!

This came in the mail today from the auction site. I looked at it a couple of times and it looked to be nice, but no one wanted it for $12, so it followed me home. It's really a nice and cheeky little vintage axe with a good original handle, but no name with only a partial label. Anyone recognize what's left of the label?

I have no clue, but everything about it looks excellent.

Holy moly, I saw a very small hatchet of that make or brand in a market the other day. It was black, but definitely the same partially worn logo. The head was loose enough to slip off, and boy did the bit ring when tinged. I'll be interested to see if anyone recognizes the logo!

I've already rehung it, and it has the most perfect tapered eye I believe i ever saw.

It just keeps getting better and better doesn't it.

This hatchet is making me jealous, I really want my hatchet to arrive in the mail already.
Supposed to arrive today but I have a PO box meaning It's too late if it does arrive today and I'll have to get it tomorrow.

I think I'll sharpen, and polish the bit tomorrow, then go chop down a tree.:)
