It followed me home (Part 2)

That's old-school and some guys still do it that way. I rust and dye, but I've run completely untreated traps and the animals didn't seem to mind. Well, they did, but in a way that worked for me. Lol
Ya, that was a long time ago...:(

Thanks for the tip. Another admission; I have never had to remove handle wood form an eye that also contains epoxy so this will be my first. What happens when a drill meets it? Doesn't cut through?

I don't have access to a torch so will have to work out a caveman method.
A drill will work fine, it'll just take a bit more work and you could potentially put some drill marks inside the eye.

A handle should come from the bottom out the top, and on one of the three epoxied handles I've removed I was able to just tap the wood from the bottom out the top taking the epoxy with it.
It's no guarantee, but I like to try anything I think may get the job done easier or faster.

Brilliant! Yes it makes sense to put some thought into a task and work in an order from most efficient to least, not just the method that goes with the closest tool to you.

This came in the mail today from the auction site. I looked at it a couple of times and it looked to be nice, but no one wanted it for $12, so it followed me home. It's really a nice and cheeky little vintage axe with a good original handle, but no name with only a partial label. Anyone recognize what's left of the label?

Turns out that the hatchet is a Hytest.

I haven’t had a lot of time to post lately. Just getting finished up with a big move into our new house! Haven’t got my work area fixed up really yet but I have found a few things recently. The forge is my next large project. I am going to replace all the metal in the bottom of the forge. And put a new T on the bottom. It is a Bufco Buffalo forge. Marked on the blower and the bottom plate. It is missing the axel and two wheels from the front two legs. I am planing on having some solid steel wheels machined at a local shop. If anyone can find a picture or catologe of the originals I would be in your debt. I would like to make them as original as possible.

Well I found this one but I would still like to find a catologe picture.

Looks a lot like pedal car wheels and there are a bunch of reproductions out there. Might save some dollars looking into them.

Looking close that says broil” ..... This wasn’t a grill right? Hahah I don’t know enough to know if that’s a forging term I guess

Wow I guess I did not look hard enough. Can you send me the link for this? That is a great idea on the pedal car wheels. I guess I just assumed they would be thicker steel wheels like casters maybe
Wheels, hub caps, tires and axles. Not sure what all might work...

Thank you! I was very happy to find that panel saw! The itching is still there even. I sharpened it the day I got it. I’m not sure I will have to look when I get back.
