It followed me home (Part 2)

that reminds me of something i saw at a garage sale, it was an anvil with vice built into it, and could be converted to a grinder or drill press, on a stand mounted next to the blower/forge, he wanted a lot more money than i had

Got a few "new" axes. My first gransfors, first Emery Waterhouse(the boys axe) and a chipped E&S handmade cruiser from '48. And a little bench clamp.

I probably won't hang this #2-1/2 e&s due to the chip(s).

Emery Waterhouse value wedge boys axe. Exactly #2.4oz.

And my first Gransfors bruks! I'm pumped! Says 3-1/2 but weighs #3-9.4oz.

All great axes...I am particularly drawn to that value wedge boys head. That's a damn beauty with such prominent stamping still remaining...as we know Maine stamps are hard to find not filed down and or shroomed over a bit lol!

Some of my recent finds , they were not found at the same time or in the same place.

A Crescent No. 56 Suregrip nail puller made in USA.

A Stanley No. 8309K 3/4lb ball pein hammer made in England still on its original handle and as tight as the day it was made.

A made in Canada Nicholson rasp , it has fine cuts on the reverse side.

A Hults-Bruck axe head made in Sweden, on the reverse side it is stamped 0,9/2.

An old Tucker "Lazy-Tong" pop riveter made in Birmingham England , unfortunately it only has 2 rivet setting heads , however I have cleaned it up and it still works like a charm , these tools are not built this way any more.

Nothing spectacular but my brother gave me a Kelly 'slasher Michigan pattern double bit (no letter/# combo sadly) that he found in some poison oak and a felling or bucking wedge he found at a scrapyard. Do any of you recognize the stamp on the wedge? I know a few logos but circle I is a new one to me.

4' champion tooth with a helper handle. "Warranted superior". It's hardly been used!

I dont think I have seen one with the cutters only at the heel, like you would see starters at the toe on the older saws.
Great find...beautiful supplemental handle too!

I am curious if you find an etch...the cutters and the heel and toe, the shape of the handle...I am wondering if you have a saw from the Atkins line...
I have one 48" badly worn, missing teeth Atkins...similar handle, cutters like yours at the heel and toe. My champion teeth are sadly worn to nubs compared to your fresh saw.
Excellent score

Josh, isn't a GBA Gransfor Bruk a little uncommon in your neck of the woods ? My axes were mostly Swedish except for the couple I bought when I forgot to pack one for camping.

I picked up one of these https://www.amazon.ca/Timber-Tuff-TMB-13DC-Curved-Shave/dp/B00ZGU1152 . It may be made of steel or maybe rice noodles. Of course I didn't pay that for it. I didn't think I would ever find one on my rust hunts.

It is pretty rare to find one in mid coast Maine! I've found two from Sweden (hb i think) and one from west Germany. This is the first gba I have come across. Do any of you know if it's true that this stamp is from the 80's? 15563390567642555687056012057063.jpgIt was painted the light blue color originally. It also says "made in Sweden" on the opposite side as well. 15563391649534221694814279018195.jpg
I might as well mention one more thing while I'm at it! I don't know if it's normal for gransfors(it must be) to have the weight stamp on top of the poll? 15563393095841011089880741329315.jpg
I've whire wheeled it and wet sanded it and i started filing it this evening. The steel is very close to perfect. Just a little softer than most hey-day American ones.

One of the coolest hatchets I've ever seen, jersey type patterns sure aren't common to hatchets.
It's the first I've ever seen and it looks a helluva lot better than those swedish botique axes of today, but I guess those desirable features just weren't common to this size of head in years gone by.

My GBA is a swamping DB , so I'm of no help. When I picked mine up, I saw the Made in Sweden and thought I had another Sandvik. Gransfor Bruk at this stage, GBA, was just another production forge, like Wetterling or Hulks Bruk. Quality, but with a North American export pattern. I think you did better than if it had Gransfor Bruk on it.

Josh, did you clean up the medallion, or do you think somebody stole/removed a "good one" off of it? To then put the more generic warranted superior one on there? It might well have been an Atkins, etc. medallion on there. Some people like to pull the ones with the classic brand names :/

Unfortunately that is the medallion it came with. The medallion and two other screws are the same steel so if they did pilfer the medallion they replaced the screws too. I just can't place what remains of the etch.
Inside the circle are two fleur de lis. The uppermost one is upright and the bottom one is upside down. Does anyone recognize that??
Is there a list with photos of old etches anywhere that anyone knows about? I've been trying to find examples to compare against but I'm not having much luck.
