Wow, nice haul!!!
Sweet Connecticut on top? what is that? I feel like I should call dibs on it just in case.
also, what is the axe with the white and red handle? I have a handle just like that I wonder what kind of axe it came with.
It might take two men and a boy to work with that for long. That draw knife is freakin huge!
Is that head on the large axe on back to front? I showed this photo to my daughter who replied "Who cares they are all just bits of metal and wood"IMG_20200505_121244 by Justin Lyttle, on Flickr
My gut tells me: Mining industryAlright fellers, long time no see.
Coming to you with a new one to me. I don't know what it is. I'll tell you the weight at the end. Don't skip to the end, look at the photos first. No cheating. It's more fun this way.

I only have questions about this one. I've compared it to an axe we're all familiar with, a Kelly Perfect Jersey 3². If I'm correct it's pre-1919. I know that and the weight.
I don't know what it is. I'm thinking it's a heavy construction axe of some sort. I was thinking railroads. It's a chunky boi, as you can see, and clearly well used. Flat cheeked, its only relief ground as often seen on a carpenter's hatchet. It's like a squat, flat cheeked Rockaway with a waffle poll. It's so squat, in fact, and believe it or not, it's the same weight as the KP. Yes, it's at three and one half pounds even in this worn condition.
So who knows what it is? I want to hang it. But not knowing what it is I'm not sure what the proper hang looks like. Anybody got any old GTW catalogs?
I wish I had a more educated guess for you man! I was thinking about it and a miners axe really might make sense. Something heavy, stout and squat for building scaffolding in tight spaces seems like a legitimate guess!Alright fellers, long time no see.

Oooh La La she pretty! Lots of steel left for you! What haft are you thinking? Or is a surprise? Lol, great find man. Glad you tracked one down!!!Finally acquired a Spiller! And a damn good one too. Still over weight. Made in '34 roughly ten or eleven years before the company was purchased by Emerson Stevens.

One interesting tidbit I recently picked up is if it says Oakland, Maine. It's a Spiller made axe
But if it says Oakland, ME. Than its made after E&S bought the company. Roughly in '45 not exactly sure which year. But that's the year the owner passed away. I'll be filing, honing and hanging this baby over the weekend most likely!!
Thanks so much!! . Being an old Oakland axe it's got a huge eye. So it'll either be one of my nos S&N hafts(most likely) or I'll have to carve one. But I'm out of ash staves and all I have is red oak. And I think I want this on hickory! So maybe a surprise! Haha it'll be fun either way. Appreciate it man!Oooh La La she pretty! Lots of steel left for you! What haft are you thinking? Or is a surprise? Lol, great find man. Glad you tracked one down!!!
Oh geez man. I don't know! Plus it's a loaded question even though you didn't intend it to be! I have more different distributors and hardware concerns than I do separate makers. I'd have to say only 15-20 perhaps? Makers that is. If I counted the different stamps, etches and labels that would jump considerably!Josh: I do not know what triggered this question, but, I am wondering how many makers are represented in your collection?
Looks like a flooring hatchet on steroids, no clue what it is though.Alright fellers, long time no see.
