It looks like my custom Emersons were stolen

They were supposed to have arrived on Wednesday of last week, but I didn't find this out until this evening. According to my room mate, no package was on the doorstep when he came home on Wednesday last week. USPS shows the package as having been delivered, but there's nothing here.

I'll be checking with USPS tomorrow to see if there was some kind of error at the local post office, but it's likely that the box was simply taken from my door step.

My customized Super 8 and my Persian...gone. I never even got to hold them. Five years of waiting for a Persian, and I only got to physically own it for one day.

I think I'm done collecting knives.

Generally if something has value, one ensures it's shipped with a requirement for a signature.

When I sent them to Mr. P, I insured them. I asked him if he insured them when he sent them to me, but he hasn't responded yet. I will be surprised and disappointed if he says that he didn't.

Shit.

I pray to god you find those knives.

Let me know, let us know if we can do anything from our end.

Until then I'll pray for you.

That sucks buttock if they have gone wayword. :thumbdn:

I personally always get insurance and a signature on delivery when I post stuff. It keeps every one safe from losses or damage and also makes it hard for people to claim the knife didn't turn up or was never posted if they want to pull a fast one. (I've had that happen twice).

I learned the hard way when sending money to the wife for child support. Everything gets a paper trail, signatures required.

It's disappointing that UPS would leave the package(s) unattended. I'd say that without UPS being able to prove that they were delivered and accounted, you'd do well to contact them and demand an explanation.

It wasn't UPS, it was USPS. They confirmed that they delivered the package last week. If that's true, then it's long gone by now.

I'll be unemployed at the end of this week, so there will be no more knives for a long time.

Oh man, that absolutely sucks.

If I were you, I'd pay close attention to ebay and craigslist.

Bummer Man!
My best wishes for some positive result from this unfortunate situation.
And good luck making that period of unemployment brief.

This happened to me years ago when I traded for a BenchMade Ares folder off the forums. It was shipped. I checked the USPS web site, the web site delivery confirmation number was entered and it said it was delivered on such and such date at such and such time. I was like what? I wrote the guy at first. He said he saw that it was delivered and figured we were good. Well, it never came.

About three weeks before this I had ordered a book from Amazon and same thing. USPS and Amazon both said shipped, and delivered and yet it never arrived. I was fit to be tied! I went to the post office and spoke with the post master. She put my post lady on it after learning that Karen my normal post lady was not working the days when this occurred. Karen started looking into it and the first thing she did was go directly to the street parallel with mine to the same house number as mine only on that street. Guess where my stuff was? Thats right my so called good neighbors were reading my book, had used my knife and still had both boxes on the umbrella stand in the hall way at the front door which Karen saw when she was asking about them. They admitted they were delivered to them by accident but never explained why they opened my mail, why they never returned it as delivered to the wrong address or why they sat on them for a month before being found out.

I turned them in and filed a report with the postal inspectors. I also confronted them at their front door and told em what I thought of their behavior. So, first thing I'd do if I were you is start checking your neighbors out. Good luck finding them. I feel for you. By the way, this event for me was the wake up call that delivery confirmation is basically worthless other than a feel good extra that simply tells you it was delivered and when. It doesn't tell you whether it was delivered to the right place or not though. If you want that ship it with signature confirmation. Then you know who signed, when that occurred and best of all that info can be tracked.

I checked with my friendly neighbours last night, just after I'd learned about the mistake. I'm going to check down each of the streets on my block to see if the knives were possibly delivered there.

The problem is, I live in a predominantly southeastern Asian community, and most of the people here don't speak English.

Nevertheless, I'm going to stay on top of USPS until I have exhausted all other possibilities. I'm also going to keep an eye out for anyone in my neighborhood who has a flashy looking knife on them.

I still can't believe that this was simple theft. There was only a gap of three hours between the time the knives were allegedly delivered (11:17 AM) and the time my room mate came home from work (around 2:30 PM), so if someone took them it had to have happened in that very small window of opportunity.

Anyways, thanks for the words, STR. I'm going to keep looking, and I'll keep the thread posted on any new developments.

Even if it was insured thru USPS, if they show it delivered my bet is that they give you a very cold shoulder!!

Also, report it to the local Police and if theres a Pawn shop in the area you might want to stop in and give them a heads up.........................

You have my deepest sympathies. My postman once left a box containing two Spydercos on top of my garden wall. It was only because I happened to leave the house shortly after his drop-off to get some lunch that prevented them from being filched. You can bet they received a rocket from me about that.

Okay I'm not sure I understand all this.

So did the shipper insure the knives or not? If so then you may be out the knives but not the money.

Or more accurately if he did get insurance then both you and he may be out the knives but not the money.

If he did not insure the knives and additionally did not get signature confirmation then he is out the money and he owes it to you. So far as I can tell this is squarely on the shipper unless he has it in writing from you that you didn't want insurance or signature confirmation.

Who the heck doesn't provide insurance and signature confirmation when shipping valuable knives by default??? That's a very bad plan on his part because now he has you saying you never got the knives and he has no signature to prove if you did or didn't.

It's pretty simple, actually.

The shipper didn't insure or signature-on-delivery the knives he sent to me, which I also found odd - but there's really no point in whining about it now. The knives are gone.

The knives were out on my front doorstep in a USPS priority mail box for about six hours unattended while I was working E3 and my room mate was at work. It was either some random douchebag who passed by my house deciding to take a random package he saw, or the deliveryman lied. In either case, no one could have known what was in the package before they stole it, because the box wasn't marked. I don't really live in a bad neighborhood, so in principle the random thief theory is weaker; in practice, however, I don't put it past human nature to pass up an opportunity for theft.

I've filed a report with the police, I'm checking Craigslist and eBay, and I'm making regular calls to local pawn shops. There isn't much else I can think to do besides keep my eyes open for some guy walking down the street carrying a pimped-out Emerson Persian or Super CQC-8.

I believe I'd be going after the shipper, he / she was completely negligent.

He already feels crappy enough about the situation, and has offered to do free custom work for me on future knives. He's a good guy, and I don't want to alienate him by trying to dump blame on him.

I'm upset about the theft, like anyone would be, but getting pissed won't change anything. I'm pursuing the stolen knives to the fullest extent I can, so hopefully something comes out of it.
