It seems Cold Steel is now in the blatant ripoff business

Brian - when you have the right knives and axes, sheathed by the right designers/makers, you don't need 100-mile an hour tape:)

Okay, a little on the drop holster's leg strap for the Gryphon:p

It's all the change we gotta carry for the toll boothes that makes noise!!!:(

Yep, I concur. Sal / Spyderco has always made an effort to stay on the high ground in this industry. One of the reasons Mar felt so strongly about him and the product line. The cutlery biz, in my experience, is one where - depending on where you're at, who you're with, and how you're doing - you can and will hear good, bad, and indifferent about anyone and everyone at some point. That's why it's important to (a) do your own work and (b) don't sweat the small stuff.

I'll take a minute here to once again thank ALL those who donated knives to the unit here. I just squared two more away in need of a truly good edged tool/weapon (Simonich Raven w/ Tanto point format and KA-BAR Warthog/Impact Series). Have one Emerson to go (looking for that last good home) and the project will be completed. Great morale builder and in direct support of the effort here. Thanks, gentlemen:)

Our appreciation and respect again goes out to our Brothers, the Nez Perce Nation. We are pleased you received and found worthy our gifts to the Nation. We will wear the battle scarves you blessed and sent us. Many offer they plan to visit the Nez Perce once we are home. The Nez Perce Nation and its warrior spirit goes with us in the liberation of Iraq and its Peoples.

Gregg, what's the mailing address out there? I'm sure we can send a few pieces out.

Sal -

Thank you:)

"Let's Roll" was announced on the Forum and ran for about a month with frequent updates posted on the Tactical forum. We had to invoke a cut-off date in early FEB to be safe regarding the very long delays in mail we experience here. Anything sent now would take 3-5 weeks even if sent Priority. I just advised Bram of same.

Spyderco donated a number of knives, as I recall, for DS-1 during our blade drive then:D They went to good homes and were well appreciated / used.

Keep us in your prayers. Your offer most kind, as always.

Alright, I gotta ask this question, has anyone seen the "black talon" in store anywhere? it's not on the website that's for sure.

My recollection the CS "Talon" was originally seen at SHOT show, or something like that.

Many new cutlery products are previewed at SHOT, then hyped to the public in the aftermath of SHOT, despite their not - in many cases - actually being in production. SHOT allows for vendor interest to be generated (orders taken) and that will drive the individual maker/provider as to what models and how many he/she will actually fund to have produced. In some cases, if a prototype model garners zero or very negative reaction at SHOT, it won't get made at all.

Not all firms do this but most fine-tune their coming year's production and introduction of new models using SHOT as a very good yardstick.

So, what may be seen at SHOT and then hyped in the public forum may be either several months from actually reaching the consumer...or may never see the light of day other than a few prototypes and "gratis" giveaways during the festivities.

i am aware that this thread is long dead, but i'd like to point out that to my eyes, while it looks like CS is certainly homing in on the market who will buy civilians, it doesn't look nearly as specialized to me. it seems that the tip is significantly thicker, which in such a specialized design makes the knife practically a completely different animal. in my opinion, the CS here looks like a knife that is meant to resemble a civilian, whereas the civilian has an obvious and fairly small purpose range by design. patents are one thing, but would that thing actually stand up in use similarly to a civilian?
