Hello BladeForums, I hope you are all doing well!

A week or two ago or so, I posted in the GEC #14 thread that people who missed out a knife, should pay attention to this forum... Well here we are. :D

We have been moving to a new home so I haven't had the chance to pop in as often as I would have liked lately. The move got me thinking though... What brought you all here?

For me, it was a shoulder surgery. I needed to slow down for a bit and my old computer hardware forum was more or less dying. I'd always had an interest in knives and had just started working in a meat department (lots of knives!). After finding out bhyde bhyde (who was active on my old forum) was a mod here, I decided to give it a try. After meeting all the wonderful people here, I decided to make it my new "home". :)

Alright, let's get down to it.

Being given away is a brand new, unused Great Eastern Cutlery #14 Tidioute Barlow in Goldenrod Sawcut Bone with tube. :D

Now for the rules.

This giveaway is open to all NON-PAYING BladeForums members WITH AT LEAST 250 posts in the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade subforum as of today (yes, I know that is a lot), as well as all PAID members WITH AT LEAST 100 posts in the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade subforum.

To enter, just tell us what brought you to BladeForums or better yet, the Porch in particular. :)

The giveaway will be open until Friday 6/10. All names will be entered into a random name picker and a winner chosen.

Good luck!

I haven't done one of these in quite awhile because I found one of the knives I'd given away in the past for sale on Reddit. Please don't break my heart.

Very generous Brian! Thank you.
I ended up here after I found that I needed to branch out from Case, but Case was all I trusted. I started reading all about Queen and Great Eastern Cutlery. After a while I bought my #35 shortly after my son was born. A year later I was still reading, so I joined up, and now I can’t stay away from BF.

Fixall Fixall - wonderful GAW, wonderful prize. I came to Blade Forums because I was invited by a member of the Buck Sub-Forum. I been a user and accumulator of traditional Buck Knives since DEC 1972 but branched out into traditional Old Timer in the 1980’s. This is not an entry (as I own WAY too many knives) but a salute on your great GAW! OH

Very generous, thanks for doing this.

I'd like to be "in", always wanted to try a 14.

What brought me here? A re-kindled interest in traditional knives after several decades of the practical/ tactical thing.

Which also happened to land me on the Porch. :)

Not gonna lie, I came here because I wanted to get more serious with knife collecting and most internet searches lead me to threads and posts from BF. I lurked for a while and eventually joined.

I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, made friends, spent a ton of money and I‘m still having fun appreciating the hobby! Posts from contributing members like yourself are what makes this place great Fixall Fixall . 👍🏻

I started out with an interest in Japanese chef knives, evolving into water stones, then Arkansas stones, then modern pocket knives, then fell into this traditional forum. I get why it’s referred to s the porch, because the ambience and camaraderie are like nowhere else. No other gun or knife forums fell anything like this. I comment occasionall, but am on here often, simply to enjoy listening to others talk and help each other. Like an old-time general store with rockers on the porch and shavings from whittling on the porch floor. Thanks for being here. Hey, can you think of anywhere else where people GIVE things to others they’ve probably never even met in person. Covid has changed the world even more, but glad that some things endure. Always wanted one of those TC clippoint Barlows. Praise to you for giving a treasure, rather than something from the Back of the drawer. Hope I meet you some day.

i hear you on the shoulder surgery, having had three of those, and three spinal fusions, and a hip replacement Right after Charlie’s. Enough titanium in my body, don’t need any in my knife. You’d think I’d find a better hobby than this, considering being on permanent anti-cogulation therapy. Not complaining, just appreciate the opportunity to still be here. Beautiful GEC. Thanks, Dave

I think I was made aware of BladeForums when looking for info about knives I had still hanging around from my younger days, and knives I had owned in the past but lost.

I was drawn to the Porch because traditional knives were all I knew - somehow having missed out on the whole modern/tactical thing.

This was my first post, which got a warm welcome from the regulars here:

Not an entry, as I am not a GEC fan, and would have no appreciation for what it is the way a collector might.

Not in, but thanks for the generous GAW. I signed up back in 2010 because i had just seen silence of the lambs and became fascinated by the knife in the jail cell that Dr.Lector uses and eventually in hannibal that spyderco harpy. My first bunch of posts were just about those two things, and other knives in movies. Ive loved traditional knives since I was a kid, and attempted my first blade delete around the early teenage years. the pieces are still sitting in my father's work room actually. Have loved this section of the forums and stayed mostly around the porch. Got to know a lot of nice people and eventually had the privilege of meeting some of them at my first GEC rendezvous. Its a shame those things are not what they used to be, but c'est la vie.

I'm in.
That's a beautiful Barlow. Thanks for the chance.
I first discovered BF when researching a Maine pattern axe that turned out to be not as ancient or special as I'd thought. BF may have been my first social medium; it's still the only one I use.
I discovered the traditional subforum when straying from axes. These are the knives I've always craved, and bought as I could.

Not an entry for me, but thanks for hosting a GAW!

I originally came to BF to research some Schrade knives that I had. I spent a lot of time in the Schrade subforum, but eventually made my way over here. I never left, all of you are bad influences (in a good way!)

Not an entry cause I have several of these little beauties. Thank you for a most generous GAW. I was searching the internet for some info on sodbuster knives and came across a thread dedicated to them. I believe the OP's name was Trevytrev or something like that. Loved every single page of it and been here ever since. Thanks again Brian!

Great GAW Brian, just what I’d expect from you! 😊👍
Not an entry for me but my story is much like several others here. Had traditional knives as a kid up through high school. After HS I had no money to collect and kinda lost interest. About four years ago I began to get interested again and internet searches always seemed to lead me here so after a while I finally joined. I remember when I first started reading posts wondering what the “porch” was and then I realized I was on it! 🤣
Pulled up a rocker and I’ve been here ever since. 😊👍

I am in. I've been here 21 yrs... paid for quite a bit of it, but not currently. I originally came to Blade forums because I liked knives (duh!) I have spent a fair bit of time on the Porch, but my recent record is woefully deleted of most of my past musings! Not sure when that happened. I have always lusted after this pattern. Thank you for this give away and your generosity.

I'm out. 😁
What brought me here? I was searching for information on Rough Rider traditional folding knives. Specifically if they were good knives worth getting, or just a different name iteration of the garbage waste of money 🤢 Frost 🤢🤮 and no name sub $1.00 "440C" (note quotes) gas station special knife shaped objects I remember from my youth.

I stuck around and learned about brands I'd never heard of when growing up. Case, for example. Where I was raised (Iowa side of the Iowa/Illinois border) "Case" was a farm implement company. None of the sporting goods stores, hardware stores, gun shops, tractor supply, and department stores in the city I was raised, or with-in 60 miles on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River carried Case cutlery. I don't remember Case ads in the Field & Stream or Outdoor Life and gun magazines my dad subscribed to, or in my Boy's Life. I suspect they didn't market their knives west of the Mississippi River. Don't recall seeing any in California when I moved there for a few years after highschool, either.
