It's about that time again... Giveaway!

Thanks Brian, I’ll throw my hat in the ring since this is one of the GECs I have always wanted to own but have never had a chance. If your saying theirs a chance, then I’m In!

I was brought to BF in general because I’m just a knife nut, and love sharp things. I found the porch after hearing about GEC, missed out on the 19 BF knife, but I got the 21 and it’s spectacular. Great community here.

Oh heck, I’m definitely in. That is a dream knife. Best wishes to all entrants.

This knife brought me to the porch (pic below). I’ve owned it since I was a boy and it was old and worn when I bought it. It is by far my most carried and used knife and is precious to me. One day I went searching to learn more about it, somehow ended up on the porch. The kind, sensible, good natured people here are unique on the internet. I have found no other place so welcoming and friendly. While we share a common interest, this place is quite diverse from simple knife users like me to collectors to experts to makers; old to young; from all walks of life.

I have always been more of a reader and admirer than a poster since I don’t have a big collection to share or expertise to dispense, but I come back daily as part of my evening routine (795 posts in this forum over 14 years is nothing to brag about!). It’s a great place with great people.

Definitely count me in. A single blade Barlow in sawcut is about as close to a traditional grail for me as they come. Not only would I never sell it, but I'd actually carry it fairly often! I'll even sharpen it even tho I kinda suck still
I joined BF originally because I was researching budget blades since I hadn't bought a knife in like 10 years but didn't have much to spare. After BF being constant search results for this vs that I figured participating would let me get to the point. Got way more than 1 knife over the years lolz 🤣

I'm loving reading about what brought all of you here to BF and the Porch. Next time I have a giveaway we'll have to talk about what makes us all stay here when there are any number of forums out there... I think the answer to that is going to be pretty easy to discern though. John said it well... "came for the knives and stayed for the people".

Dave you really nailed how I feel about the Porch. I've been apart of a lot of forums over the years, but none have felt like a true community like it does here.

Hats off to you ladies and gents.

Also... Any of you who are eligible, but not "in"... Feel free to nominate someone if you would like.

Hey Brian! Most excellent GAW. 👊🏼

This is not an entry.

I stumbled onto BF while searching for a certain knife that was out of production. Found the exchange and an absolute ton of awesome information.

Then came the friendships. cchu518 cchu518 sent me a Rough Rider Swayback out of the blue as a gift, and rekindled my love for traditionals. The porch was an obvious progression from there.

I value the friendships I’ve made here the most. Including yours.

Again, not an entry, but a fatastic GAW and good luck to all!

PS…never did find that knife I was looking for way back when. Haha.

Very generous GAW! Barlows are my favorite traditional pattern and I haven't gotten my hands on a 14 yet so please count me in.

My evolution in knife collecting was an interesting one. I first started researching knives when I got interested in survival skills and learning about bushcraft as well as watching all the survival shows. So naturally I needed a sturdy reliable bushcraft knife.

From there I figured I'd need something more compact that I could carry with me wherever I went which lead me into modern folders. I was very interested in all the different locking mechanisms and wanted to try them all out.

After collecting a number of modern folders I figured I'd need something smaller for more precise cutting tasks which lead me to get my first traditional. I picked up a case mini trapper and fell in love with the natural materials and practicality of these knives. This sent me down the youtube rabbit hole learning all I could about the different traditional knife makers and history of the patterns. My research lead me to GEC but since they weren't widely available I found myself on the porch to stay in the loop on upcoming GEC runs.

Now I find myself on here daily reading random threads and enjoying photos of members collections. I still enjoy my moderns but only plan on collecting more traditionals going forward.

A very generous giveaway Brian :) Not an entry from me please, but I just wanted to say thank you, and to wish everyone good luck

I have been interested in knives all my life, and writing about them for more than 30 years, but if I remember correctly, what very first brought me to BF, was a search for a particular Alox SAK, a Vic Cadet in Sunburst Orange! :D I never did get one, and I certainly prefer the Farmer now 🤣

1:Advice on sharpening my work knife.
2:The camerarderie and feeling of genuine friendship and cybertogetherness...
I think Ive contributed to the Porch....but in my own strange way I have gained much more...
Cheers.
Im in.

Very generous Brian
I'm in.
I think, and in all honesty I'm not 100% sure, that I found BF when I was researching a knife I found at my Dad's when I was cleaning it out after his passing. The top knife was made in Japan by the American Knife Co. I had never heard of them. I had heard of Kutmaster, but didn't know much about them. I was familiar with Imperial and Camco. Googling led me to BF where I discovered the friendship and comaraderie of the Porch clap.gif

Please count me in!

I love the positive personalities on this site and the fantastic technical support offered here. I started making knives about a year ago and have learned a ton thanks to this community. Many thanks to all you!

Sure, I’ll toss my hat in … don’t have a 14 or a Barlow at this point … (though my very first knife was a white plasti-bone Barlow).
I joined BF back when things were less apocalyptic and GEC was going strong … you could actually “shop” for a GEC among the various dealers and pick out the one you liked … craziness, I say!
I like the way JohnDF JohnDF put it …
Came for the knives, stayed for the people.
Thanks for the opportunity!

I'm in because how resist to the appeal of a TC barlow !

I landed here by chance, searching for some infos on traditionnal knives (mainly French, but I'm curious also) and found first another US forum, much less easy to use, where I first heard about Trevor Ablett, Canal Street and Schrade, and saw an ad for a GEC retailer. I kept searching further and discovered this stuning place where I learned a lot, thanks to the US generosity won some GAWs, made a few ( 😉) friends, even met some in person.
If I dare a description I'd say that I'm happy to find a place where knives are all the craze, but where you can also talk or hear of anything else ! ☺️

Ooh...that's a nice one. I can't resist, I'm in.

I first found BladeForums because I was interested in a weird looking knife called the kukri. They are easily attainable now, but twenty years ago if you wanted the real thing you got your knife from Himalayan Imports. The HI sub-forum was my initial hangout around these parts. I still have a soft spot for them and this M43 is one of my favorite knives.

As cool as they are, khukuris are not the most practical knives for day to day use. I began my professional life around the same time and I also needed a knife that would fit well with office wear -- khakis, slacks, suit. So I asked around. Someone suggested a stag stockman, which brought me here. I haven't left since.

Thank you for your generosity.
