It's been fun

So sorry to hear about your suffering Mark. Chronic pain sucks ! My wife is down for the count now too, preparring for surgery and a long recovery time. I'm happy to hear we'll still be see'in you around BF. I hope in time that you can find someone or someway to get yourself fixed up enough so that your back pain isn't the only thing thats going through your mind, that can get old real fast. I wish you the best brother

Oh Man!!! Do what you need to do Partner:thumbup:;) If you need anything call me up. Make Deb smash some steel for fun:thumbup:

Mark, it's a sad fact of life we all have to retire eventually. I know that you'll feel the desire to make something from time to time, so you might find another career at some point that you'd never thought about. There's a lot of stuff you can make that doesn't take much physical input.

Anyway, it's good news you'll still be hanging around here helping all of us make better knives. Thanks for all you do.

I really do appreciate all the kind words Guys.

About the only problem I'm having is trying to fill the void in my head where knives always used to be. I'm trying my best to keep positive , but it's really hard to get excited about anything.

I was going to sell off my equipment , but Deb says no way. She might be a knifemaker one day herself.

Anyway. You Guys mean a lot to me and I'll be here watching your backs. :)

Mark

I'm glad you decided not to abandon us Mark I'm sorry you are not the youngster you used to be and feeling the effects of working your ass off all your life.
Youve been an inspiration and a pillar here and in the knife community more than you probally realize. With your experience and way with words I would think you could stay comfy in your favorite chair and use your head to further the craft. The pen is mightier than the sword. I talk to many people at shows that frequent this forum. You are very well respected and they will listen to anything positive you want to say. Write some articles and submit them to the mags. They are always looking for some new material.

There may be a youngster that needs you and your God given talent. Quality mentors are rare. I feel you fit in that catagory. Just a few hours a week would go along way to the right kid. There is so much confusion for the youth today. This craft is "Timeless" and good foundation for him.

Kids yes but there are plenty of adults who would love to have you mentor
them in your shop. You might even have a small class from time to time

i think more then deb would have kicked you in the but if you sold off your tools (less you had a good price for me :D )

yep do the write ups keep us in line and if you feel up to it help a kid or adult out and have a class or just a show and tell in the shop

you ll be fine

Sorry to hear about this. Best of luck and I hope you get some relief from the pain.

I'm sorry to hear that you have had to retire Mark. I know that decision didn't come easy or without a lot of pain. I am confident that you will find comfort in other areas, there is just too much vision (read: art, skill, talent, good nature, etc,) in there to be held back for long. Hope to see you soon.

"It's so nice we had this time together, just to share a laugh or sing a tune, seems we just get started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say goodbye..."

But not really, Mark. Stick around. Stay awhile. You still have lots of information to impart to the new folks.

Craig

Mark, I hope you get better or at least not worse.
You don't have to pound to make a knife. Consider switching to folders. Not that much time at the grinder and very low impact.

Mark,

I appreciate your even handed manner on this forum. You have made, my time spent here, more enjoyable.

Thanks, Fred
