The majority of the coating stripped off with the stripper and a brush, some was hard.. I went right on to grinding, then redipped and stripped it more from the last picture and got the little coating left on the blade off. The knife was BLACK after the sage coating came off, the pics don't do it justice how black it is. I'm not done yet, nowhere near it, but it's coming along. I'll probably finish it tomorrow.

After about 20 minutes of sitting in the stripper -

After the majority of the finish was gone. The knife was actually jet black, the pic doesn't show it right.

Then I started grinding... I think I went too far.....

Nah.. it's coming along pretty good. I got the remainder of the coating off, and need a little more time on the sander, then blend the edge and polish it. That'll be for tomorrow though.

I'm bleeding, burnt and tired. I'm also doing this sans sander platen, do you realize how ridiculous hard it is to do this without a platen? I may finish it up by hand.

This is the first time i've ever done it with a belt sander, I generally only sharpen with it.

Should I just be pressing it flat against the slack belt since the knife is convex ground?

I can only imagine how much belts you're going to go through. I've must've gone through about 10 belts already just sharpening my knives...only a year's worth too!

Well it looks like it is not really full convex from your pic. More like saber or am I just seeing things? It depends what you want to accomplish.
