Mckgreg has an awesome collection, given the pics that I have seen.

Now there is a true statement if'n ever I heard one!:..

Thanks guys. But the credit belongs to Bill. I just own them. Like this Elephant Ivory Saddlehorn that I call the Lil' Feller. It is part of a set of ivory handled Saddlehorns I am working on. The pin in the photo is one of those "1 inch" long types that you would pull out of a new shirt. The "walk and talk" in this guy is equal to the larger knives Bill makes. In line, crisp and clean.

Um... Moderators? This thread is about the most compelling argument I can think of for a  icon I've seen this week. How 'bout it, fellas? ;)

Not fair, not fair, not fair......:(

Several years ago I changed my collecting interest to slipjoints....then to SMALL slipjoints....and now you post THIS? BASTID! ;) :D ;)

Holger isn't one to talk. Every time that I see a beaut of custom slippie on the for sale froums, I find out that he has gotten there first. Either he watches that forum nonstop or he has the software rigged somehow.....:D

ROFLOL! :D

Just coincidence, that's all.

All those knives have the same flaw ! They have never been in a pocket or used as an EDC . You are missing the best part of owning a fine made knife .
If you do not use it, your survivors will be selling them way to cheap or sticking them in the lawn. When you think about it, that really hurts !
Every one of those knives are worthy of a pocket to live in, and to do some work.

Floyd

A harsh accusation, and unfounded, Floyd! I use some of those knives. I don't have to use them all. The value in some of these is in the artistry, and the potency of their fantastic materials, and flawless execution, and the pleasure of gazing upon them.
Owning them allows the makers to continue making them. The concept of beautiful custom knives goes way beyond getting them dirty, Floyd. If the only knives were users, then I'm afraid they and the world around them would be a boring, ordinary place to live.

I have a Ruple 4 blade congress, in stag. It gets carried in a little pocket in my cell phone case. The end sticks out a little, and the bolster is showing a scratch or two.

I have 2 Ruple trappers in Blue Mammoth Ivory. They occasionally get carried inside pockets, in little leather slippie pouches. No scratches.

Nothing wrong with keeping flawless knives flawless, IMHO. Of course, if you wanted a working knife you could always get Bill’s three-blade sowbelly stockman to handle most chores.

Great knives. Thanks for posting them.

   Perfect response.

Since "graduating" from tacticals to fine slipjoints/lockbacks/etc. a few years ago, I don't even tell people I "collect knives" - I tell them I collect "small pieces of art that just happen to be in the shape of knives". And, yes, I do use quite a few of them. However, having over a hundred or so "good" knives to choose from, I find that there are quite a few that I do not need or WANT to add to my daily carry rotation. So, nothing personal Floyd, but I ALSO find that accusation harsh, unfounded, and - quite honestly - becoming a bit of a cliché. My money. My knives. My choice.

Post a picture of that knife, PLEASE!! I collect 4 blade congresses and I did not know Bill ever made one. Two years ago or so when I talked with him about it, he had not made one. I have congresses by case, Reese (3, 3.5 and 4 inch) and Tony (serial #1), Richard Rogers, Shadley, Ryu, Chamblin, Burke, Rick Browne. (Did I miss anyone?) I'll have to get one by Bill Ruple now too!!

BTW, great Ruple pics and knives everyone. If it weren't so late, I'd join the game with mine. Maybe tomorrow.

Nicely written Charlie.

Floyd,
Part of the joy of folks collecting these fabulous knives and keeping them in mint condition(which by the way is a lot of work)is threads just like these for others to enjoy! I for one very much enjoy these threads and commend the owners for there efforts. I suspect I always will enjoy them. In addition, I also enjoy all the user threads as well! What is not to like when it comes to admiring any and all traditional pattern knives no matter what the condition?
