I've been tempted by the dark side. Solutions ?

Its all relative though.:( *shrug*
Hey now . . . don't bring my relatives into this . . . I thought we were friends.

How about those after market Rat I and II scales ?
Custom scales you made or had made I would like to see as well.

The comment about the curved file. Or maybe the Dremel used along the same thinking.
That was really helpful ! ! !
Thank you !
Now that I have digested it I see how that might help me maintain the strength of the scale around the edge. I was concerned about how weak it was going to get at the thin spots at the edge opposite the mounting screws etc (and even around the mounting screws) .

Fishface5 (hey there you are . . . that's the first time I ever used the "search this thread option". Cool function to have. Hey I'm sheltered and easily entertained what can I say)

Or you can just use a curved file on the existing scales to get the scallops you want. Practice on a piece of wood first. Easy and satisfying!
Thanks again

Clones and counterfeits may be "technically" different but "practically", they're the same thing. They represent stolen designs and unauthorized use of protected features. They gnaw at the health of our hobby by diminishing the rewards for innovation and excellence. They can never bring about more good than the harm they cause.

There's never a "good" reason to buy a Clone/Counterfeit, only an "easy" reason.

Please don't buy them.

I know of a good source for some cool, reasonable aftermarket scales for RATs if anyone wants to shoot me a PM.

The only reason to buy a counterfeit or clone is if you don't know better. Otherwise you knowingly support theft.

Correct. I didn't mean to condemn anyone who's ever bought one of these knives, only those that do despite knowing better.

I get a little preachy about this :p.

Well I was doing pretty good there but I feel a moment coming on where the whole class gets real quiet, including the teacher and everybody just stares at me. I used to hate that in school . . .:p :p :p
I mean I'm just asking for info but looks like it is a sensitive topic but again this thread is about the dark side and solutions. Not so much the just the Rat.
So . . .
a couple of days ago I was enjoying the forum and I saw a knife that really drew me to it. I was vaguely aware there was something not good going on around the whole topic of the thread but I'm just talking about this one knife shape / Emerson model.
So some links if you don't want to get all into it again . . .
I have been thinking about getting an Emerson, a real one, for many months now. This one really could do it for me even though it isn't a classic design (or maybe it is but doesn't look main stream Emerson to me).

Questions :
What is KAI ?
What model legit Emerson is this one ?
It looks V ground . . . right ?

Just as a side note I dig the heck out of that texture on the black thing. I wouldn't mind a little of that on the all metal frame lock side of the spear point Emerson.

OK . . . I've wedged myself under my desk . . .

That is one of the many Kershaw made emerson knives. Completely legit. Kai is Kershaw/zt/shun.

KAI is the maker of ZT and Kershaw products .
That's an Emerson/Kershaw collaboration . Kershaw 4KXL . ~$20-30 . Not bad (except as pry bar) and quilt free ! Not chisel ground .

The textured portion of the ZT handle is a rubbery inlay similar to the Kershaw Blur .

You asked “what is KAI?”

It’s a Japanese company who owns Kershaw and ZT

Heck.
I might get one but if I want an original Emerson design looks like I'm back to the CQC8 or like that.
Thanks ALL
Really only an actual Emerson will satisfy some . But a ZT version might work better and longer without attention to lock problems . ;)

Just don't wear Spandex or spine whack excessively !

I'm sorry for my ignorance on the subject of knife cloning but do you consider clones and counterfeit the same thing? Take a company like Ganzo who uses their own branding without completely ripping off the inspiration of the knife. Do you consider that on the same level as someone making fake Spyderco's?

Its a fair question and no need to apologize. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to me there is no difference.

I like knives enough to join a web site and talk about them. I like the people and companies who create knives. I'm lucky enough to know some of them.

So I draw a hard line on the people and companies who steal their hard work. They are crapping on something I am passionate about.

:poop: Has nothing to do with the OP's dark side.
Ah, so by referring to wearing spandex, you are talking about members and not the subject of the thread. Got it.

Haven't we been warned repeatedly, and quite recently, against doing that?

He's no longer able to reply to this thread, time to get back on topic

In that case you are still paying for the Ontario ripoff. Still giving the ripoff company your money. SMH

Point taken. Also I realized that they aren't nested liners as far I can tell, so making some yourself shouldn't be all that tricky and can't really cost that much and you can get more than enough G10 for 20$.
