I've got ROUGHLY $30 what knife should I buy?

Well depends on quality you need and how often you get money. I regret getting the $20 Kershaw lifter I wish I'd have bought one of those cheapo couple dollar Chinese ones dealt with it for a month then gotten a better quality. But at thirty dollars the Ontario rat is your best bet. And if you wear medium size gloves I believe the Kershaw brawler is in the price range

try flea mrkts if you have any near you i find lot of good quality knives there mostly all usa made and cheaper than retail not to knock retailers but just smart shopping

Kershaw volt or clash

Kershaw makes atone other knives but those two are the only kershaw I've bought

There is also a lot of junk and counterfeits. If you want to buy used I highly recommend the exchange here. You can buy from fellow members who's history can be vetted and you can use paypal which will give you recourse if you run into a problem.

Kershaw Leek Blem at Kershawguy.com for just over $30 shipped

Ontario Rat2, Esee Avispa/Zancudo

Buck Bantam/Maxlite gives you a lot of knife for about $25 shipped.

Take a look at the Victorinox swiss army knife line. Many are under $35 retail.
Many of the Colt and Rough Rider traditionals are under $35.
The low end RAT knives seem to be a good choice. Don't own any, but everyone recommends them.
Kabar Dozier folder runs about that price range.
A Mora knife can be had for that. Always good to own.

Thank you everyone for spending a lot of time on this thread! The reason I posted this thread was for my friend who is new to knives and wanted an entry level folder for around $30. Special thanks to those who took the time to post pictures. I am sure all of your efforts will help my friend make a more informed decision on what knife to buy.

I've got about $30 and I want to know what knife you guys think I should buy? I am looking for a cost effective folder so please suggest knives that are no more than $35 I will read ALL suggestions. Thanks a lot!
Two FILMAMS, I recommend at least one of the two locking Iberica models, 2010b
/2015b, and either their locking sheepsfoot or the one that looks similar to an Iberica with a larger, rounded pommel area.

Can't disagree with any suggestions so far. I've also been impressed with the Cold Steel Voyagers I got on sale in aus 8, if you can find them.

Modern choice: Cold Steel Finn Wolf for $35, Buck Vantage Select $25, Bucklite Max Large $25
traditional choices: SAK (Tinker, Hiker, pioneer, farmer, etc.), Opinel, Svord Peasant (great knife, but unusual).

I like the idea of an SAK, Opinel, or Svord Peasant + Mora for around $30.

Kershaw link from Kershawguy.com. I've heard nothing but rave reviews for this knife. My next purchase will be the aluminum handled blackwash version but it's a few bucks outside of the listed price range.

If I only had 30-35 dollars, I'd definitely get on this site above and look at all the Kershaws I could afford. They probably have the most varieties for this price range. If not a Kershaws, I'd get a Spyderco Tenacious, Ontario Rat One, or a Buck 110 if you like a little heavier with a cool belt sheath. Let us know what you decide.
