Izula folder

Yeah I've always prefered studs as well cause holes always chew my thumbs up.

It looks like a very nice design. Personally, I owuld moving the clip up the handle a little bit, so that the top of the handle rides even with the top of the pocket when carried.

I'll take it! Where do I send payment? ;)

Seriously, that looks great. Too bad it is righty only. :(

To hard for outdoor use? M4 is almost a perfect steel, its not any harder to sharpen than D2 and is twice as good in every aspect so I really don't understand your comment.

I foresee my wife asking me if there's anything in particular that I want for X-Mas next year.

Hmmmm.... I wonder what I could tell her? :D

A 64 rockwell outdoors knife is going to wind up half an outdoors knife real fast when you try to do anything but cut soft materials in a straight line...

64 is around the max hardness for M4 and usually its between 61 and 63 for most production blades. Even at this high hardness M4 is still tougher than D2 and would laugh at things that would break D2.

I agree. M4 would be a better choice of steel. It's toughness is great and edge retention is splendid. Though sharpening it out on the field would be a B$@#! Unless of course you carry a diamond rod with you, then yet, the edge will be coarse and IMPO not ideal for wood chores.
The only real downside to using M4 in the RAT Izula folder- would be the escalated price. The D2 blade should be much cheaper.

Overall, I don't like D2 for a survival tool. It's hard to sharpen outdoors, and is too darn brittle. Though again, it's just a folder, and probably won't be subjected to a lot of heavy use.

I like D2 as much as the next guy but D2 being brittle is something its not, It does not have high lateral strength so if you try and pry with it then yes you will think its brittle because it will most likely break. D2 chips as much as S30V:foot:

M4 being harder to sharpen is also a mute point, I find it easier to sharpen than D2 and even with the folder being made of D2 you will still need diamonds in the field. Diamond sharpeners being too coarse is also a myth, they come in a wide range of grits from 120-8000 so depending on the tool purchased you can have a coarse or very fine edge.

I don't expect RAT to change choice of steel because like you said M4 is probably twice the price of D2 but just speaking of steels M4 is the all around better steel.

I would be all for a limited run of Ti/M4.. maybe even one with g10... izula folders.... and yes I will pay the high price and use the crap out of it..
