Jack Wolf disappointment...

Unlikely to be an artifact of the maching process. Might have bent during the heat treating process. That's known to happen.
Once it's a fully finished knife though, I don't think there's any way to unbend it.
Your options are to live with it, or send it back for a replacement.

I couldn’t live with it. . .

Initially I wondered if it could be a result of heat treatment as well, but I dont know enough about metallurgy to officially make that inquiry, so if it is bent from heat treatment then it's permanent. Best thing to do is ask for a replacement

The main issue is whether the knife owner is happy with the knife they have. If not, then they will never be happy with it and will get upset every time they see it or think about it.

I always wonder why people that have a knife that has an issue that really annoys them, enough to post about it, ask others if it is annoying or not or how much. Even if we all tell them it is fine, it is still going to be annoying to them. We have no skin in the game, we are not the owner.

Question then….would you be okay with the knife if the blade was straight, but then slightly off-centered when closed?
I’m confused, what’s that got to do with anything though? Are you implying that if it didn’t have a bent blade that’s what he would’ve had to put up with? It’s not an either or situation.

It is in this case. OP already stated that the blade was centered. So if this particular blade was straightened, it would be off center.

Sadly I've heard a couple makers, who I won't mention, say that "since customers notice and care more about a centered blade than a straight blade" that they will intentionally warp a blade to center it.

I'm not certain that isn't what happened here.

Like J Doyle said above…OP stated it’s perfectly centered “as is,” hence if the blade was straight then it would be off centered….still confused?? In this particular knife it is an either or situation. As J Doyle also stated, some makers/manufacturers might warp/crink the blade to ensure it’s centered. I know I have one.

that's kinda disturbing to me. for the prices people are paying for some of these jack wolfies......ya should get both centered and straight blade.

that said...... id much rather have a straight blade than a centered one when closed. only time I care if blade is off center is if it rubs the liners. beyond that I dont really care.

I get that but you’re still missing my point. No it’s not an either/or issue because either problem is a quality control failure on the manufacturers part. In other words, you shouldn’t have to choose between one or the other. It’s not like he has to accept an imperfect knife. Most knife manufacturers can and do provide knives with straight blades that are centered.

That’s a great idea actually!

I’ve heard others complain about the clip design on this knife. As a matter of fact I thought it was probably just a minor bitching point from otherwise glowing reviews when I was researching it.

It’s not! It’s absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it’s just that mine is particularly bad, but it makes an otherwise fantastic knife virtually unusable. At least for pocket carry with a clip.

Edited to add that I’ve actually thought about doing a YT video showing how bad it is, or at least posting it’s own thread on it here, but wanted to give the manufacturer a chance to respond first. We’ll see how it goes…
So I’m happy to report I received a reply from the manufacturer today (Berg Blades). The knife in question was the BB Alpha. Gorgeous knife in a limited run. This is Excellent customer service as far as I’m concerned:

“Hi George,
We had an issue with machining tolerance on some of the clips (not all). The reasoning was because two machines were used to make the clips and the tolerance was off on one of the cncs.
I'll mail you a new clip ! I had some made after production to help with this issue. The clip is supposed to be tight (slim and not bulky) but this new clip should be alot better and should fix the issue.
Matt”

I agree with this for clarity. I was just mentioning on this specific knife, *IF* you chose to keep it, it would have to be either crooked or off center (assuming OP doesn't have the ability and/or desire to troubleshoot and fix why its off center).

Yes buyers should be able to expect a straight AND centered blade.

I’ve read a lot of things about Mike Stuart over the years, some good, some bad. Now I don’t really know the man, don’t mean to give the impression I do. Also I’m going back well over ten, maybe fifteen years now, but I still remember meeting him when I stopped by the Bark River factory as I was attending active shooter training in the area.

He sold me a couple of really nice BlackJack knives that I fell in love with and that he had on display that weren’t even for sale, at a heavily discounted price. I still have them as a matter of fact. The man was super nice to me and my partner who had attended the training with me.

Actually, every one of the employees we met there were as nice as could be. They talked to us and gave us a little mini tour of the place despite it being after hours by the time we got there. Super supportive of law enforcement and just a generally nice person was the impression I came away with and still have to this day.
